Divine™ Chocolate Cards: 2 Color Combos

So, I showed you a Divine Gift Box Card, and a Divine Christmas Tree Card previously. I went back and did a little bit of redesigning, to make each card in both color combos, to give you more options. They both feature the Christmas Tagables photopolymer stamp set, which is available a few different ways. Check out the Pop & Place Holiday Gift Tags promotion for complete info. Featuring Season of Style Designer Series Paper Stack, Soft Suede ink, Gumball Green card stock, and Crushed Curry card stock.

Featuring Winter Frost Designer Series Paper Stack, Island Indigo ink & card stock, and Pool Party card stock.

These cards are designed around Divine Mini Milk Chocolate Pieces, and the Divine Mini Dark Chocolate Pieces are the same size, so you can use them interchangeably. On the Gift Box Cards, each chocolate has a tab to pull it out. On the Christmas Tree Card, you can access both sides of the top chocolate, so no need for pull tabs there. However, there are pull tabs on each of the lower chocolates. You can find the chocolates at DivineChocolate.com or at SERRV.org. Currently, they are available only in 150 piece boxes. Don't worry, you will use/eat ALL of them in no time! I will be showing you more treat holders using them for the holidays, and even into Valentine's Day.

Both color combos of the Gift Bow Card use a Stampin' Sponge to sponge around the layered edges of the Artisan Label Punch Bow (click for tutorial). Both color combos of the Christmas Tree Card use the Merry Minis Punch Pack, to punch out the star for the top of the tree. [Merry Minis Punch Pack is on sale through 11:50pm MT on December 9th!] For the card bases, you can use either card stock from a package, or our new Cut & Ready Card Bases--the colors for my card bases are Crumb Cake and Smoky Slate.

Let's say you didn't want to make the Gift Box Card...maybe you only want to make the Christmas Tree Card. That's totally cool, each set of cards purposefully uses different patterns from its featured paper stack. Each stack has 48 sheets in it, so, in the case of the Red/Green tree, you could make 24 trees using the Season of Style DSP Stack's chevron pattern paper, and make another 24 of them using the dotted paper (shown on the Gift Box Card). Similarly, you can make 24 of the Blue/Gray trees as shown, and make another 24 using the Winter Frost DSP Stack's 6-point star pattern. You can easily tuck these cards in standard envelopes, but I think you will have to pay extra postage for the thickness if you mail them, so I would go ahead and put them in a padded envelope for better protection.

I've had to redo the tutorial for the cards since I've redesigned them to more efficiently use the patterned papers, but hope to have that up this weekend--thanks for your patience!

Divine™ Chocolate Christmas Tree Card

Yesterday I shared a tutorial for a bow I put on my Divine™ Chocolate Gift Box Card. Today I want to show you my Divine Chocolate Christmas Tree Card, as the second in my series of cards, which deliver treats along with their holiday greetings!

Like the Gift Box Card, this card features Divine Milk Chocolate Mini Pieces which can be pulled out of the little sleeve wraps on the front of the card, so the chocolates can be enjoyed without ripping the card to shreds! The top chocolate is accessible from both sides, so it doesn't need a pull tab. Also, like the Gift Box Card, this card features the Christmas Tagables stamp set, which you can read all about and order HERE. I used Soft Suede ink, because that is what you will get if you order the Christmas Tagables stamp set in the discounted Pop & Place Holiday Gift Tag Starter Bundle. The background of the card is actually the same string of stamps I mounted in a single line on Clear Block I and used for the Gift Box Card background. And I also made sure to use a foundation for the card that you can order already cut and scored: Crumb Cake Cut & Ready Card Bases.

For the triangle trees shapes, I punched out Gumball Green card stock with the Petite Pennants Builder Punch. The top of the tree is a whole triangle, the middle green parts of the tree are one triangle I cut in half from the bottom, and the tabs that are at the bottom of the tree are each one whole triangle. I simply tucked the other half into the chocolate wrapper (between the paper and foil) and glued the triangle in place so that only half the triangle is sticking out. The patterned paper is from the Season of Style Designer Series Paper Stack. I tried to avoid using any more supplies--but I needed a tree topper, so I punched one out of Daffodil Delight card stock using the star from the Merry Minis Punch Pack. It is the PERFECT size! Divine™ Chocolate Gift Box Card

I've had this idea on the back burner for weeks, and I think I'll just go ahead and share the card with you. This card holds 4 Divine Milk Chocolate Mini Pieces on the front. Each chocolate has its own pull tab, so you can pull it out for nomming, and the patterned paper squares on the front of the card stay in place. So, the recipient can enjoy the chocolate without tearing up the card :-) I'm happy to make a tutorial for you, but I'd love it if you'd be willing to leave a comment to let me know whether you prefer a picture tutorial, or a video tutorial.

The reason this card took me so long to finalize is not because the idea was complicated--it certainly isn't. I was working hard to use as few supplies as I could, so you could recreate this card without spending a fortune :-) I only used one ink pad, the Island Indigo Classic Stampin' Pad. All the images come from one stamp set, the Christmas Tagables photopolymer stamp set. The background was created with 4 stamps from this set, that I adhered in a line, on Clear Block I, so I could ink them up and stamp them across the card a whole line at a time.

The bow was created using only the Artisan Label Punch, which happens to coordinate with the Christmas Tagables stamp set. I used the Winter Frost Designer Series Paper Stack for the bow center, and to wrap around each chocolate. The rest of the colors coordinate with the paper stack: Smoky Slate card stock, Island Indigo card stock, and Pool Party card stock (which I used for the bow ends, although you could use the Pool Party patterned paper from the stack if you prefer). Other than that, you'll need a Stampin' Sponge if you want to shade the bow, and some Tombow Multipurpose Glue, and just a couple of Stampin' Dimensionals.

The Divine chocolates are perfect for keeping this treat card mailable, though you may need to pay for just a little extra postage, and have the Post Office hand cancel this for you. You can choose either the Milk Chocolate Mini Pieces or the Dark Chocolate Mini Pieces, as they are both the same size. Divine™ Ghost Favor Picture Tutorial

I showed you this Divine™ Ghost Favor here in my previous post, and now I've got the pictures posted to walk you through making it yourself. To prepare, you'll need to cut out a shape with the Bigz Clear Oval Accent Die, in Whisper White card stock. Then, take a scrap piece of card stock and punch through it with the Owl Builder Punch. If you use Basic Black, be sure to keep track of the medium size circle punches from the Owl Punch--you can use those for ghost eyes!

The first step is to use the owl outline from the punched out piece of card stock as a template on the right side of the oval accent piece. Click the picture if you want to see it full-size, and check out how I've lined up a pointy piece from above one of the owl's punched out feet, to point right at the notch in the oval accent piece. While holding that point in place, rotate the owl punchout so the curve of the owl's ear point matches the curve of the top of the oval. Once in place, trace this line lightly with pencil. (don't trace the feet, just the curve of the outline of the owl)

You will then slide the owl template over to the left top part of the oval accent piece, and trace in the same manner...it will be a mirror image of the line on the right side.

You will end up with markings on your oval, similar to the marks you see below. You'll want to make yours with light pencil lines so you can erase them. I went over mine in black pen, just to get a good photo.

Cut along the lines you made, making sure you cut through the tiny spots where your line skipped above the owl's feet. Erase any lines that did not get cut away, and you should have something similar to the shape below:

This next step is optional, and you may not need to do it after making this project once or twice, as you will readily "see" the angle after this illustration. In the picture below, I have laid a ruler from the corner of the notch on the lower right part of the oval accent, to the "head" of the ghost. As you can see, this marks a line roughly parallel to the side of the ghost's head. If you need to, you can take a pencil and lightly mark this line for reference. Then, find the same angle on the left side of the oval and mark it lightly.

Next, you will see how to line that score mark up with the groove of the Stampin' Trimmer. (again, I made my marks in pen so you could see them on the photos) Make sure the head of the ghost is to the side of that groove at the top, and the notch of the oval is exactly in the middle of that groove at the bottom. Click on this picture if you need to see it full-size, to see the groove clearly. Lay down the guide of the Stampin' Trimmer, and, using the scoring blade, create a score line. Then, turn the ghost 180 degrees and do the same angle on the other side.

You will then want to add another score line about 1/4" to the outside of each score line you just made. This will give a little depth to the piece, to help it wrap around the chocolate inside. I simply lined up each of the first score lines I made (which you can see marked in black below) with the outside edge of the brown-grey plastic near the groove of the Stampin' Trimmer. Then, turn the ghost 180 degrees and do the same on the other side. If this method freaks you out, then measure and score 1/4" from the original score marks by lining up the original score marks across the 1/4" line on the Stampin' Trimmer. Either way, make sure the second score lines are farther away from the center on each side of the ghost than the first ones.

When you are finished scoring, you will be left with the piece you see below. All that's left to do is decorate it. Our NEW Bite Me photopolymer stamp set includes all the sayings and images you need, to duplicate my sample. Plus, you can see right through the photopolymer of the stamp to see *exactly* where your image is going!

A few tips on decorating:
- Make a few of these out of plain copy paper to get the feel of the cuts and angles, and to test out various designs first.
- Glue the eyes of the ghost on first. You only need one owl template, so you can stick narrow strips of black card stock into the Owl Builder Punch to punch out only the eyes for subsequent ghosts. You can also just draw on the eyes with a black marker if you aren't into glueing small pieces.
- Be careful with your stamped greeting at the bottom, make sure it fits without getting covered up by the ghost's draping "arms" when the piece is closed. Both the Happy Halloween and the Trick or Treat sayings from the Bite Me stamp set will fit perfectly across the bottom, as long as you stamp them as low as they will go across the piece.
- Keep your stamping on the inside of the ghost "arms" confined to the outer edges, where they will not show until the favor is opened.
- Sponging the inside and outside edges of the ghost helps the white-on-white features stand out.
- You don't have to include a closure piece across the front, but it's much easier to stack, store, and hand these out if they are kept closed.
- You can use a punch other than the Ticket Duo Punch for a front closure, if you desire. Remember to only glue down one side permanently, and use a temporary bond for the other side of the punched piece, if you want it to open without ripping.

Bigz Oval Accent Die Divine™ Ghost Favor

Remember that old deodorant commercial that boasted it was, "strong enough for a man, yet made for a woman"...? Today, I am sharing a special treat holder that I think is cute enough for a kid...

...yet made for a grownup!

I found this little treasure of an idea tucked away in last year's posts on the blog of a gal named Bernie Forlenzo. I am not sure if she is the original designer or not, but I could not find a way to "measure" the cut away part accurately. I got frustrated with my trial and error methods, and set out to figure a way I could make it goof-proof for YOU to duplicate at home. I'll update you with my picture tutorial in a day or two, but if you want to recreate it, you may want to run through and make sure you have these supplies on hand. And you might want to Subscribe to my Blog by Email so you can get notification when the tutorial is posted. You can substitute for images and colors, but the key elements this pattern requires are the Bigz Clear Oval Accent Die, and the Owl Builder Punch.

If you don't have the supplies you'll need, that's okay, you can grab them in my ONLINE STORE. Just enter the item number that's listed next to any item, in the Search field near the top left of my store: the Bigz Clear Oval Accent Die 127005 (to use with your Big Shot 113439), the Owl Builder Punch 118074 (that's the secret to my template, and I also used it for the eyes!), and the Bite Me Photopolymer stamp set 134622 (and Clear Blocks to use with it-you'll find them under Stamps, then Stamp Accessories). You will also need a tool for scoring, my picture tutorial will demonstrate the Stampin' Trimmer 126889 for that. I used a StazOn Jet Black ink pad 101406, a Pumpkin Pie ink pad 126945, and also a Basic Gray ink pad 126981 with a Stampin' Sponge 101610 to highlight the edges. The 'Boo!' tag that holds the ghost closed was made with the Ticket Duo Punch 126883, and Wisteria Wonder card stock 122922. I glued one side of the tag firmly with Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive 110755, and put a tiny dab of the same on the other side of the back of the ticket, and let that DRY before touching it to anything. That created a temporary bond strong enough to hold the ghost closed, but not so much that it will rip the paper when it comes undone. You can do the same on the inside of the ghost, for easy removal of the chocolate piece.

The main reason these Ghost Favors are made for grownups, is the Divine Mini Dark Chocolate inside! I do have to mention that I received some Mini Dark Chocolate Pieces for free from Divine, which is what I used for this project. However, my love of Divine chocolates and my desire to use them in my projects came before I received anything free, and I am receiving no other compensation than a few different samples to design some favors around :-)

Divine™ Jack-o-Lantern Mini Purse Favor

Raise your hand if you're tired of seeing Christmas stuff all over the place before Halloween. Yeah, I hear ya ;-) I am guilty of having shared 5 Christmas Cards in a row myself recently (oops). But today, I am really starting to dig in with the Halloween theme. Actually, this project I am sharing today does double duty--if you leave off the Jack-o-Lantern face, it makes a lovely Fall or Thanksgiving treat or table favor:

This Jack-o-Lantern Mini Purse Favor features Stampin' Up!'s Bigz L Petite Purse Die. This die will cut out the body of the purse, along with a purse strap. For this project, I elected to use the purse strap to hold four Divine™ Milk Chocolate Mini Pieces, as you see below. You could just leave your chocolates banging around the inside of the favor, but I thought it would be uber nifty for the recipient to open it up and pull out this tidy little package of awesomeness :-D

I love making decorative treat holders, but for the last several years, I've felt worse and worse about using what I call "big corporation candy". You know the candies I'm talking about. I love chocolate as much as the next folk, but as a grownup, an overwhelming part of the enjoyment I derive from chocolate now involves fairness in commerce, and wholesome ingredients. I'll post my rant on this later, but for now just believe me when I tell you that Divine™ chocolates live up to their name in every way! That's why I'll be featuring them in MANY more upcoming holiday projects--don't they look great together?
