2014 Leprechaun Punch Art FREE Printable PDF

I have created a FREE printable for you, using My Digital Studio, to make my 2014 Leprechaun Punch Art! When printed at 100% (actual size), each leprechaun just fits inside the 2-1/2" Circle Punch, and can then be layered onto the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch, if desired. If you want smaller leprechauns, please adjust your print scaling accordingly. To make a quick garland, punch out scallop circles and sew them together in a line (gold thread would make a fantastic accent), then adhere a punched out leprechaun over the top of each--or use the leprechaun only every other or every few scallops.

2014 Leprechaun Punch Art

Five years ago I made some Leprechaun Punch Art, but several of the supplies are now retired. I've recreated that leprechaun for you today, with supplies that are currently available to order. If you're like me, you can already envision a mini garland of leprechauns, a greeting card with a leprechaun on it, or maybe just some leprechaun cupcake picks! The ideas are as plentiful as the fabled gold at the end of the rainbow, right?

St. Patrick's Day Chocolate Mint Holder Video Tutorial

St. Patrick's Day Chocolate Mint Holder

Do I use a 3 leaf or 4 leaf shamrock?? The symbol of Ireland is a three leaf clover, the plant said to have been made famous by Saint Patrick, who used the three leaves as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity. However, before that, the Druids allegedly used 4 leaf clovers (which only appeared as an anomaly, approximately one in 10,000) as a charm to ward off bad luck. It seems more appropriate to me to use a 3 leaf clover for anything that actually says "Happy St. Patrick's Day"...so that's what I did on my samples for today:

The innards of these treat holders are chocolate mints, which I found in my local "club warehouse" store. You know the one--it belongs to some guy named Sam. These super yummy treats come in these cute, shiny green individual packets, and look like a sandwich of dark chocolate bread slices, with a mint green spread in the middle.

***Alternate Candy Ideas***

If you are using a different candy or treat in these holders, please share what works for you, and I will add it. Consider getting candy in coordinating colored wrappers, for example, green or gold wrapped candy for St. Patrick's Day. An asterisk denotes project dimension adjustments.

• (2) Stacked Hershey Nuggets*: 2" x 6" card stock, scored 2.5" from each end

I would like to get a video up for you tomorrow, but after being sick for so long, that might be way too optimistic. For now, I'd like to offer you the simple text instructions below. Please note that I originally designed this treat holder for use with the NEW Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, however, that item is currently on back order until March 24th (and is slated to be unavailable for ordering starting March 8th--so order yours today if you want to make sure you are on the list). Anyway, in my instructions, I will show the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch method, along with THREE alternate punches you can choose from, for your convenience:

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cut Gumball Green card stock to 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", then cut 5-1/2" x scant 2" strips (just less than 2") from the pieces. One sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" card stock will give you 8 treat holders. Score 2-7/16" from each short end of the card stock piece.
Punch the top off each short end of the card stock. The Scalloped Tag Topper Punch allows you to punch the top and the hole at the same time. If you use any of the other punches, you will need to go back and manually create the holes for the ribbon.
Alternate Punch Tops: Slide your scored card stock in the paper guide from the back of the 2-3/8" Scalloped Circle Punch, Decorative Label Punch, or my fave for St. Patrick's Day, the Blossom Punch, and cut just the very tip of each short side from the scored card stock piece.
Lay your scored and punched piece flat in front of you in portrait orientation, and stamp the "happy st. patrick's day" saying from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set (wood-mount , clear-mount) just above the top score line, using Gumball Green Ink Pad.
Punch four hearts from Pistachio Pudding card stock, using the Small Heart Punch, and lay them above the stamped saying to judge the spacing you desire. Adhere the top heart, and one to each side of it. Remove the bottom heart.
Freehand cut a stem from the bottom heart that you used for spacing, then adhere the stem. I like to use the Tombow Multipurpose Glue to adhere the heart pieces and stem.
You will need a permanent yellow and a permanent brown marker for this next step. Color a medium-sized Basic Rhinestone with the brown marker and let dry for a few seconds. Dab with paper towel if you wish. Then, color over the same rhinestone with the yellow marker. This should give you a gold colored rhinestone. If it is too yellow, just color over it again in brown, and once more in yellow, to get the look you want.
Using your Paper Snips, slide the tips of the barely open scissors under the self-adhesive dot under the rhinestone and lift it off the backing. Now, place the rhinestone at the center of the shamrock and press in place.
Alternate Punch Tops: Go back and punch a hole on one short end. Then bend the piece at the score marks and hold the ends flush together, and punch through the hole you already made, to get the hole in the same place on the other end.
Cut some ribbon to tie the treat holder closed. I cut a 3" length when using the Pistachio Pudding Ruffle Stretch Trim, or the Whisper White Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon. I cut a 4" length when using the thicker Gumball Green Stitched Satin Ribbon. Loop ribbon through both holes of the treat holder and tie in a single knot.
Center the candy in the package and fold excess material around the back of each side. Then tuck candy into treat holder. The bulk of the candy package helps hold the candy in place, so you don't need any adhesive. This way, the treat can be removed without damaging the treat holder. [Note: if you want the ends of the candy package to show, you will want to secure the candy up higher in the holder with a couple of glue dots before tying it closed with ribbon, because when the candy naturally rests at the bottom of the holder, and the sides of the package are sticking out, the treat holder tends to tip over.]

That way, you can take the candies out from projects you didn't end up gifting, and separate the candies into the colors you want to use for Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day. 2013 Leprechaun Top Note Box

Several years back, I created THIS Leprechaun Top Note Box...and today I am featuring an updated version:

It takes a bit more time to make, and a bit more attention to detail than some other Top Note boxes I've shared, and I'm just sharing the dimensions and supplies today in text. If you want to see a tutorial video, leave me a comment and let me know--your voice counts :-)

INSTRUCTIONS:
1) You'll need one full sheet of Gumball Green card stock. Cut it in half to get two 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" pieces. Trim one of those pieces to 5-1/2" x 6", this will make the "box" shape in the middle, in step 15. (set the 5-1/2" x 2-1/2" piece aside, you may want to use it for step 12)
2) Cut the remaining half sheet of Gumball Green to two pieces at 4-1/4" x 5-1/2", and run each piece through the Big Shot using the Top Note Die. Lining up the tips in the track of your Stampin' Trimmer, cut one of the Gumball Green Top Note Die cuts in half, in the short/fat orientation.
3) Take a 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" piece of Pink Pirouette card stock, and cut to two 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" pieces. Run one piece through the Big Shot using the Top Note Die, and hang onto the other half for step 9.
4) Using a Stampin' Sponge, dab a bit of Cajun Craze ink over the front of the Pink Pirouette Top Note Die cut, to give it a slightly ruddy look.
5) Using the Boho Blossoms Punch, punch 13-15 of the biggest flower out of Tangerine Tango card stock (I used 13). Arrange these around the bottom half of the sponged Top Note Die cut, for the beard. When you have the look you like, adhere them in place. For this project, I have used Tombow Multipurpose Glue except where noted.
6) Take one of the Gumball Green half Top Note Die cuts, and adhere it over the top of the Pink Pirouette Top Note, for the hat.
7) Punch two 3/4" Circle Punch pieces from Whisper White card stock, for the whites of the eyes.
8) Punch two 1/2" Circle Punch pieces from Basic Black card stock, for the pupils of the eyes. (Optional: punch 3/16" hole in pupils for a "twinkle" in the eye by using a "confetti circle" from the Cupcake Builder Punch, or use a White Gel Pen to create it)
9) Punch one 1" Circle Punch from a piece of Pink Pirouette card stock and cut in half, for the eyelids. Punch one 1/2" Circle Punch from a piece of Pink Pirouette card stock for the nose.
10) Sponge around the edges of each half 1" Circle Punch piece, and the 1/2" Circle Punch piece with Cajun Craze ink.
11) Adhere the pupils to the whites of the eyes, and adhere eyes on Leprechaun face, just below the Gumball Green hat. Then add the 1" half circles with Mini Glue Dots over the eyes, at an angle, for eyelids. Adhere the 1/2" circle with a Stampin' Dimensional for the nose.
12) Using the writing end of a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker, you can freehand the smile. Or, if you prefer, use the 1-3/8" Circle Punch to punch a hole in a scrap piece of card stock. Then, lay the open hole you punched out, over the face and center the nose in the hole. Then trace along part of the open circle with the marker to make a uniformly curved smile. Add a few dots on each side of the nose with the writing end of the marker, for freckles.
13) Using the Petite Curly Label Punch, punch through a piece of Brushed Gold card stock (or Champagne Glimmer Paper). Center that hole in the middle of the larger Curly Label Punch, and punch again to get the "buckle" for the hat.
14) Layer the "buckle" over the center of a 3-3/4" x 3/4" strip of Basic Black card stock. Lay the layered "buckle" and "band" about 1/2" above the edge of brim of the "hat" and adhere in place. Trim away excess around curved edge of hat.
15) Create box from 5-1/2" x 6" Gumball Green card stock: Score 1-1/4" in from the left and from the right parallel to the 5-1/2" side, and score 2-1/8" in from the left and from the right parallel the 6" side. Snip along all four of the score lines on the 6" sides, up to the 1-1/4" score line, then fold sides in and adhere to create an open-topped box.
16) Adhere face to box, making sure that the bottom of the beard does NOT go past the bottom of the box, so the box can sit flat on its bottom.
17) Adhere the full-size Gumball Green Top Note Die cut to the back of box, again making sure the tip of the Top Note does not extend past the bottom of the box. You will also want to ensure that the back Top Note is adhered at the same height on the box as the front one. Adhere the remaining Gumball Green half Top Note to the back side of the Top Note you just adhered to the box. This extra bit helps reinforce the back Top Note with a second layer at the top.
18) Leave top of box open for gift giving, or close box at top of "hat" with self-adhesive Velcro dots, or punch holes at top to close with a black brad.

Box O'Fun

I couldn't help myself--I had to make this leprechaun box...I love how it turned out!

TO CREATE THE INSIDE BOX: It takes two Garden Green card stock Top Note die cuts, one Blush Blossom Top Note die cut, and a half sheet of letter sized Garden Green card stock (trimmed to 5-1/2" x 6") for the box in between the Top Notes. The trimmed sheet gets scored 1-1/4" in from the left and right, along the 5-1/2" side, and scored 2-1/8" in from the left and from the right, along the 6" side. Snip along all four of the score lines on the 6" sides, up to the 1-1/4" score line, then fold sides in and adhere to create an open-topped box.

You'll also need a good sized piece of Ruby Red card stock and the Boho Blossoms Punch for the beard. The rest of the features and decoration can be created with some scrap pieces of Basic Black card stock, Whisper White card stock, Blush Blossom card stock, and Metallic Gold card stock.

One of the Garden Green Top Notes will be cut exactly in half. One half is used in front for the hat, the other half is glued onto the inside of the back Top Note. You will sandwich ribbon between these Top Note pieces, to hold the ribbon in place. I also recommend using a brad through each of the Top Notes, at the top center, going through all layers and ribbon to reinforce them.

The hat band is 3/4" wide, and trimmed to the Top Note side after it is adhered. The buckle is made by first punching the Small Oval Punch through Metallic Gold card stock, then centering the Large Oval Punch around the smaller hole, and punching it out. The eyelids are made from a 1" punched circle, cut in half. The whites of the eyes are 3/4" punched circles, and the pupils are 1/2" punched circles. The nose is a 3/4" punched circle. Eyelids and nose were sponged around the edges with Ruby Red ink.

To make a template for the smile, punch a 1-3/8" Circle out of scrap card stock or vellum card stock, and trace along the inside of the punched hole to create a uniformly curved smile. You can add some freckles (dots) to his cheeks with a Basic Black marker, and a glean in his eyes with a white gel pen, if you'd like.

I used Mini Glue Dots to attach the punched beard flowers, and the facial features. I used Sticky Strip to attach the box to the Top Notes. I used liberal amounts of SNAIL on both surfaces to attach the 1/2 Top Notes to the full Top Notes (for the hat and the top back supporting piece).

It takes about 14 of the largest Boho Blossoms Punch flower to cover the Top Note. Instead of punching flowers for the beard, you could sponge Ruby Red ink around the beard area at the bottom and sides of the Blush Blossom Top Note, but I thought the flowers added a lot of character.

WARNING: during the creation of this project, your eyes may turn Garden Green, and your hair may turn Ruby Red. If you already have those features, then expect to gain a few more freckles on your nose by the time you're done!

Lair of Leprechauns...?

So I have this group of leprechauns on my table, and I didn't know what to call them. I was thinking along the lines of "flock", or "gaggle", or "pod", or maybe even "tribe"...but then I figured these cunning little creatures must have a LAIR! Plus, the term 'lair' is quite alliterative, so I'm stickin' to it!

I made these last year--they're really easy. I'm just going to steal my directions from last year and make changes where needed, due to retired colors and supplies I used previously. Here's a close-up for you...just click on the picture below to make it larger:

Punch out a Scallop Circle from Ruby Red card stock. Then punch out a 1-3/8" Circle in Blush Blossom, and a 1/2" Circle in Blush Blossom. Sponge over the large circle lightly with Ruby Red ink--this circle will be the face, you are giving it a ruddy look. Sponge around the edges of the 1/2" circle with Ruby Red ink--this will be the nose, you are giving the outline some definition. Glue the 1-3/8" sponged circle onto the Ruby Red scalloped circle. (I like to use just a tiny bit of the Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive for glueing on this project.) Set the nose aside, you will attach it later.

Punch the Tag Punch from Garden Green card stock, and trim it to 1" high. For the hat band, cut a strip of Basic Black card stock to 1/2" wide, then cut the strip to 1-3/8" long, which is the width of the tag punch. Glue the hat band onto the bottom of the trimmed Tag Punch, flush with the bottom. Then cut a 1/4" strip of Summer Sun card stock, and trim off a 1/4" piece from it, so that you have a 1/4" square of Summer Sun card stock. Glue that square in the center of the black hat band, flush with the TOP of the hat band.

Glue the hat layers onto the top of the layered scallop circle. Imagine a line across the top 4 scallops of the circle, and line up the bottom of your hat layer just a little below that. Punch the hat brim from Garden Green card stock with the Large Oval punch. Take a bite out of the top and the bottom of the Large Oval with the Small Oval punch. You may wish to temporarily affix the Large Oval punched piece to a piece of scratch paper with Dotto, so you can more easily hold onto it while you line it up in your Small Oval punch. Affix one Mini Glue Dot to each side of the hat brim, on the back, and adhere it over the hat band. Make sure the black of the hat band does not show underneath the hat brim.

Stamp two of the little round orange images from the One Smart Cookie stamp set, in StazOn Jet Black (or waterproof Basic Black) on Whisper White card stock, and allow to dry. Color over the center of the stamped images with an Old Olive marker, to make the green eyes. Trim out each eye with Paper Snips, and then affix each to the face, with a Mini Glue Dot. Affix the sponged nose, overlapping the eyes, with a Mini Glue Dot.

For the mouth, you can punch out a 1" circle from scrap card stock (or vellum card stock if you'd like to be able to see through it), and use the piece with the hole punched in it for a guide. Trace around the inside of the punched hole with a Basic Black marker or journaler, to create the semi-circle smile. Mark lines across the smile at each end, and then use the marker to create a few freckles to each side of the nose.

You can affix a pin back, and give these out for St. Patrick's Day, or use the leprechaun as an embellishment on a card, 3D project, or scrapbooking page. You can place one of these pins in a small cello bag with a Top Note topper, stamped with the Pinch Proof stamp set, and give them as gifts. Or, string linen thread through each hat, and create a leprechaun garland for your mantle, or even for your computer monitor! Alternate leprechauns, and mugs of green beer (using the Cheers To You stamp set), and create your own festive party necklace. The uses are endless, and extremely entertaining :-)

Jiminy O'Cricket!

I guess I've been so hung over from chocolate from Valentine's Day that I totally forgot about St. Patrick's Day coming right up soon! Here's a little project you can make--it'll give your friends something to chew on 'til Easter...

STAMPIN' SUPPLIES:

· Glorious Green card stock* (3-5/8" x 5-1/2")
· Pinch Proof stamp set
· Gable Green card stock (2½" square)
· Whisper White card stock (2" square)
· Glorious Green ink pad
· Word Window Punch
· Scallop Circle Punch
· 1-3/8" Circle Punch
· Sticky Strip
· Stampin' Dimensionals™
· Certainly Celery 5/8" Poly-Twill Ribbon (12")

[*Glorious Green card stock Cutting Tip: cut one sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" card stock into quarters, then cut each quarter to 3-5/8" x 5-1/2", to get four gum holders. Keep the scraps for the Word Window Punch later.]

DIRECTIONS:

Score Glorious Green card stock parallel to the 3-5/8" side at: 1-1/2", 1-7/8", 3-7/8", and 4-1/4".
Stamp scored card stock repeatedly with shamrock, inked up with Glorious Green, to create a background pattern.
Wrap cover around Orbit Gum package and SECURE COVER ONLY TO ITSELF with Sticky Strip. It is very important only to adhere card stock to card stock, and not to leave any adhesive which will be exposed to the gum package. You want to be able to slide the gum package free of the cover, to take pieces out!
Punch a Scallop Circle out of Gable Green card stock. (Textured card stock adds more depth and interest, but is not a requirement. To get more depth from flat card stock, consider using the Sanded background stamp with VersaMark or coordinating ink, or a Sizzix Texturz plate, on the card stock prior to punching out.)
Stamp the "pinch proof" circular image onto the 2" square Whisper White card stock in Glorious Green ink and punch out with 1⅜" Circle Punch.
Layer pinch proof image onto the center of the scallop punched Gable Green circle.
Using Stampin' Dimensionals™, adhere scallop medallion to front of cover, near the left side, as pictured.
Tie a strip of Certainly Celery Poly-Twill Ribbon around the cover, and knot it, to the side of the scallop medallion in front.
Use the Word Window punch to punch out two pieces from the leftover Glorious Green card stock, and adhere one to each end of the gum package (to cover up some of the distracting text and give a more finished look than just the side of the package will provide).
OPTIONAL: Stamp a coordinating greeting, punch a small hole to create a tag, and use Linen Thread to hang the tag from the knotted Certainly Celery Poly-Twill ribbon.
