A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop - Box of Sunshine

Welcome to our JUNE 2020 #APaperPumpkinThing Blog Hop. Each month we share alternate projects using Stampin' Up!'s Paper Pumpkin Kit! We usually hop on the last Thursday of the month.

Our Paper Pumpkin kit for June is called Box of Sunshine. It comes with supplies to make 8 full-size cards, with coordinating envelopes. There are 2 each of 4 different card designs that you can customize with the stamp set and embellishments! Below is a picture of how the projects look if you make them according to the kit directions.

The kit also came with an extra label you could put over the Paper Pumpkin logo on top of the bright, sunny box, as well as extra embellishments to decorate the box. The idea is to #sharesunshine by putting one of your cards, and some cheery goodies, in the box and then mail or give it to a friend. If you'd like to see how Stampin' Up!'s CEO Sara Douglass used her kit to #sharesunshine, you can watch her in the embedded video below, or on YouTube HERE.

For my projects this month, I tried to stick pretty close to the kit contents for my alternates. Just about the only supplies I used other than what came in the kit was the Paper Snips, Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue, and our Paper Trimmer to score and trim a couple of pieces. Those are pretty basic tools, but I did add the Timeless Label Punch to make quick work of a couple steps. And of course, I went to my local candy store and got lots of bright, sunny candies to put inside. Instead of making cards, I'm using the 8 card bases to make 8 boxes, and the 8 envelopes to make 8 little bags - so I can share a LOT more sunshine with each kit!

For the box, I took one of the card bases and added some score lines, snipped a few places, and glued it together with our Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue. (you can find a link to the tutorial below) Then I stamped some of the die cuts from the kit, and I adhered them with some Mini Glue Dots and Stampin' Dimensionals from the kit. Using the Timeless Label Punch made rounding the back corners of the box lid, and punching out the thumb notch, a breeze!

The great thing about using the Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue for the box, is that the glue also works as a temporary adhesive to help keep those back bottom corners of the lid from sticking out. To create a temporary bond, put just a little dab of glue on the inside of each of the back bottom corners of the lid -- and be sure you don't touch the adhesive to any other part of the box until it is DRY. Once the adhesive is dry, you can press it against the box and it should stick just enough to keep the ends of those flaps against the box when it's closed. Or, you can even stick the flaps to the sides of the box to keep it partially open, like I've done above.

The bag is made from one of the coordinating envelopes that came from the Paper Pumpkin kit. (you can find a link to the tutorial below) The pre-printed die cuts make assembly a snap, and I just used my Paper Snips to make the "banner" ends on the self-adhesive polka dot label. The included sparkly self-adhesive sequins give the bag a little bit of glitz! The greeting was stamped with the ink spot that came in the kit.

The bag & box I made for this hop are projects I've made a few times before with Paper Pumpkin kits. I have an easy TUTORIAL VIDEO for the basic steps of both projects in this post from several years ago. The only things I did different on the box were: 1) I used Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the box flaps together, and 2) I used a rounded end of the Timeless Label Punch to round the corners and make the half-circle looking notch that makes the box easier to open. For the bag, I only trimmed off the very top (instead of the 3/4" I mentioned in the video), so that I did not cut away the pretty gold stripes.

Third Thursdays Blog Hop - A few of my NEW Favorite things!

Welcome once again to our Third Thursdays Blog Hop! This month our theme for the hop is A few of my NEW Favorite things! Our posts will feature projects with product that is NEW to the 2020-2021 Stampin' Up Annual Catalog and/or Beginner Brochure!.
{you'll find Product Purchase Links for current items I've used, below the Blog Roll}

There are only two of us participating the blog hop today, so it's more only a skip or a jump! I'm featuring the NEW Whiskey Business stamp set, along with the NEW Stacked Stone background stamp. The card base is Sahara Sand Cardstock, and so is the layer onto which I stamped the background. I used the Basic Gray Ink Pad to ink up the image, then before I stamped it down, I tapped a Stampin' Sponge along it in random areas so the ink was a little lighter in places. Then, I randomly sponged areas inking up the Stampin' Sponge using the Early Espresso Ink Pad, and the Soft Suede Ink Pad, to give the wall a little more depth and dimension.

I stamped the decanter and glass with the Basic Gray Ink Pad, onto Shimmery White Cardstock, and colored them with the Stampin' Blends. We don't really have a "whiskey" color, so I mixed the Light Pumpkin Pie with the So Saffron Combo. For the decanter and glass, I used the Seaside Spray Combo...and the Color Lifter was a very important tool to blend and lighten areas. To give the decanter and glass some sort of surface to sit on, I grabbed a piece of Basic Gray Cardstock and cut an angle off one end, then dragged two sides of it across the Basic Gray Ink Pad to sort of give it something that looked like a shadow on the side and back.

The greeting was also stamped with the Basic Gray Ink Pad on Shimmery White Cardstock, and I backed it with a layer of Basic Gray Cardstock. I just used my Paper Snips to fussy cut the edges. Underneath the greeting, I layered some Early Espresso Faux Suede Ribbon. I just rolled Stampin' SEAL+ along the back of it (and then made sure to wrap any overlapping adhesive to the back side), and sort of laid it down...kind of folding it over itself in a couple places.

One thing I really like about our Paper Trimmer, is the ability to easily cut a "frame" out of a piece of paper you are going to use for a layer. The Brass Foil Sheets come in a package of only two 12"x12" sheets, so it's wonderful to be able to cut that chunk out of the middle and save it for something else!

Here's a last look at the card - it has the fold on the top instead of down the side. To cut your letter-sized cardstock for this style of card, cut it in half the long way, so you have two pieces that are 4-1/4"x11". Then just score each at the halfway point of the 11" length (5-1/2") so that it folds over to 4-1/4"x5-1/2". With this card, I would suggest the Very Vanilla Medium Envelopes, to keep that neutral, muted tone consistent.

Stampin' Supplies: Whiskey Business Cling stamp set, Stacked Stone background stamp, Shimmery White Cardstock, Sahara Sand Cardstock, Basic Gray Cardstock and Ink Pad, Soft Suede Ink Pad, Early Espresso Ink Pad, Stampin' Sponges, Brass Foil Sheets, Faux Suede Ribbon, Stampin' Blends (Seaside Spray, Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron, and Color Corrector), Stampin' SEAL+, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals, Paper Snips, Grid Paper, Stampin' Trimmer, Stampin' Scrub, Stampin' Mist (to clean cling stamps).
