A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop - Picnic Paradise

Welcome to our July 2018 #APaperPumpkinThing Blog Hop. Our kit this month is called Picnic Paradise. It came with supplies to make 12 cards (3" x 3"), 4 each of 3 designs, with coordinating envelopes included for each card, plus 4 cute little baskets! Here are my alternates for this month...a card and a gift card holder:

If you've seen very many of my Paper Pumpkin alternates, you know I try to stick pretty closely to the kit contents. This month all I added was some Crumb Cake Cardstock for the full-size card. Here's what the projects were meant to look like if you assembled them according to the kit instructions:

I used the apples to go with a Back to School theme. What I did to make the card seems pretty obvious, but I'll point out a couple of details. I cut the white printed vellum piece that's under the apple, in half. I used the other half on the gift card holder. I cut some of the green/white tissue paper from the kit, and tore the sides so they'd be a little ragged, and match the vellum's zigzag edges. And, I stamped off the basket weave image one time on my Grid Paper before stamping the image down, to make it a touch lighter.

The gift card holder is made from one of the basket bases from the kit, with some edges trimmed slightly. You can see the other half of the white vellum piece from the card, that I used on this project. You can also see some of the green/white tissue paper sticking out from underneath the apple and the vellum.

You could tie your twine around the entire holder to keep it closed if you want, but I just wrapped my twine around the front flap, and used one of the mini glue dots that came in the kit as a "resealable" closure. To do this, I attached the glue dot under the front flap, then dabbed the exposed side of the glue with my finger a few times, to sort of dull the stickiness a bit. Since the printed side of the basket base is just a little bit coated and slick, the glue dot can be pressed firmly to keep the front flap closed, and the coated part will release the glue dot without ripping when it's pulled up.

On both the bottom of the front flap, and on the top of the inside flap, I placed a Short Brim Sticker from the kit, to cover the words that were printed on the Basket Base. I stamped the basket weave image on the sticker for the front flap before adhering it (see pic above). Placing one sticker on a Silicone Craft Sheet makes it super easy to stamp it without getting ink on the other stickers, and the sticker releases from the mat with no damage, and with the adhesive fully intact. Then you can just wipe the mat clean with your Simply Shammy. You'll notice that I chose to leave the inside sticker unstamped (see pic below).

I trimmed the shorter flaps of the basket just a little bit...taking off the edges that stuck out first, and then trimming the flat parts on the ends of the flaps that didn't have any texture on them.

And finally, when you open all the flaps, you'll see that a gift card fits perfectly inside! The baskets are super cute, but if you don't want a large 3-D project, making gift card holders out of them offers a more compact solution. Colour Combo Blog Hop July 2018

My card for this color challenge is actually backwards-engineered from a "masculine" card I made using nearly these same supplies. I'll show you that card soon. This card was a tad bit easier, because there are several flowery and feminine elements to the P.S. You're the Best stamp set, that I didn't have to hold back on using.

There's ONE stamp I just had to use on this card that isn't actually in the P.S. You're the Best stamp set...but seriously, it looks like it belongs in this stamp set.

Take a closer look. See the little lines under the P.S. part of the letter? Don't they look like tiny lines of text?? Lol, that's actually a stamp from the Artisan Textures stamp set! It's the perfect size to stamp right in there.

I frilled out the card with some f#@&y cut flower detail tucked behind the Night of Navy Medium Baker's Twine. I trimmed one leaf off of each of the flowers on the side, so the overlapping leaves wouldn't bulk up the bouquet. It doesn't take long, but you need to go slow while you're cutting so you don't inadvertently cut through that skinny little stem.

Here's one last look at the whole card. I really think Balmy Blue is my favorite new color, and I love how nicely the Night of Navy Cardstock and Night of Navy ink pad contrasts.

Stampin' Supplies: P.S. You're the Best stamp set, Artisan Textures stamp set, Shimmery White Cardstock, Petal Pink Cardstock & ink pad, Balmy Blue Cardstock & ink pad, Night of Navy Cardstock & ink pad, Night of Navy Medium Baker's Twine, 1" Circle Punch, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals, Tombow Multipurpose Glue, SNAIL Adhesive, Paper Snips, Stampin' Trimmer. Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop - Home Décor

Welcome to the July 2018 Edition of theGlobal Stamping Friends Blog Hop, featuring Home Décor! You'll see projects from stampers from around the world--I'm in Colorado Springs, Colorado. (Note: I can only sell to customers in the US, so any prices are in USD)

We hop the first Friday of each month, and my projects this month feature the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set, and coordinating Detailed Dragonflies Thinlits Dies. They are all available to order NOW in my Online Store!

I wanted to show you the completed project first, but it's also important to see where it started. The piece I purchased is undecorated below...it's a little LED lantern that runs on batteries. It was on clearance for like $4 at my corner Walgreens. You don't have to start from scratch to make a really cute piece that's unique to your tastes.

The dragonfly below was stamped on Shimmery White Cardstock. I inked up the image first with the Bermuda Bay ink pad, then I dabbed some dots and lines on the body with the Pacific Point Stampin' Write Marker. I also "thumped" the marker over the wings of the dragonfly, to add some blue in there. I exhaled on the image before stamping down, to make sure the ink was good and hydrated. One of the framelits in the die set cuts out the dragonfly perfectly! I colored the Basic Rhinestones before applying them to the dragonfly, using the Bermuda Bay (Dark) Stampin' Blends Marker, and the Night of Navy (Light) Stampin' Blends Marker.

The splash of little dragonflies was cut out of Vellum Cardstock, with a different thinlit in the die set. This die does not have a coordinating stamp, it's meant to be used alone. I colored the back of the vellum using the Bermuda Bay (Light) Stampin' Blends Marker first. Then, I dabbed some dots and lines on the bodies of the dragonflies--again, on the back of the vellum--using the Night of Navy (Light) Stampin' Blends Marker. I colored the Basic Rhinestones before applying them to the dragonfly, using the Bronze Stampin' Blends Marker.

Oh, and I forgot to mention one more addition that's pretty obvious...I cut sheets of Vellum Cardstock to slide under the 'X' in front of each clear panel of the lantern, to diffuse the light. You could stamp some pretties on the vellum to create a background, but I left it plain so the light that shines through would really feature the shapes I decorated. The Copper Metallic Thread I bundled under the big dragonflies looks almost like a homey little nest for the "baby" dragonflies. I adhered all the pieces with Mini Glue Dots and/or Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

Stampin' Supplies: Dragonfly Dreams stamp set, Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies, Shimmery White Cardstock, Bermuda Bay ink pad, Brights Collection Stampin' Write Markers (I used Pacific Point), Vellum Cardstock, Bermuda Bay Stampin' Blends Combo, Night of Navy (Light) Stampin' Blends Marker, Bronze Stampin' Blends Marker, Big Shot (for thinlits dies), Copper Metallic Thread, Basic Rhinestones, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots. (see links to purchase products below the Blog Roll!)
