Welcome once again to our Third Thursdays Blog Hop! This month our theme for the hop is A Sweet SALE! It's all about the Sale-a-Bration promotion that's happening through February 28th. One of the fun perks of Sale-a-Bration is earning FREE stuff for $50 you spend on an order in the US. You can also choose higher level items with $100 purchases - and I'm featuring one of those items today: the Friendly Hello Stamp Set & DSP Bundle.

For this project, I used my Soft Pastels for an old technique called Poppin' Pastels. The technique is simple, you just stamp the images you want on Basic White Cardstock with a VersaMark Ink Pad, then rub some of the pastel color you want, over the images with a Sponge Dauber. The images pop up seemingly out of nowhere! I like to use my Paper Snips to scrape some powder off the pastels, and onto a piece of paper towel first. Then I can load more of the "chalk" onto the Sponge Dauber at a time. I also used my Paper Snips to cut the bird away from the flowers on the image from the Friendly Hello Stamp Set that you see below. It was kind of a tight surgery, but I think it worked wonderfully to be able to stamp the bird head to peek up from the corner without the flowers and the rest of the foliage obscuring the greeting.
One of the great things about the VersaMark Ink Pad is that you can use it on any colored cardstock to give you a watermark look. I used this to create the floral background on the Pale Papaya Cardstock, and also to stamp the speckles on the little piece of Coastal Cabana Cardstock. I highly encourage you to purchase the VersaMark Ink Refill with your VersaMark Ink Pad, so you can make sure the pad is well inked for your projects. The watermark look will not show up nearly as well if the pad is not well inked. The Heart & Home Doilies add a nice final touch - they come in gray, blue, and brown, but the flip-side is white, so I used a different Sponge Dauber, along with the Fresh Freesia Ink Pad, to color it. I am all about making product last longer, so I cut each doily in half. That way, I'm not wasting the other half that would be hiding under the other layers. Same idea goes for the Friendly Hello Designer Series Paper...I just used a very small piece, but I feel like it really pulls all the colors together.

Interesting technique Kimberley! I see you aren't afraid to do a little stamp surgery either.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun technique with the Soft Pastels. How brave to snip that amazing stamp... definitely an alternative to using washi tape.
ReplyDeleteLove the color combo you used here. More daring than myself.
