Third Thursdays Blog Hop - Sweet Treats

Welcome once again to our Third Thursdays Blog Hop! This month our theme for the hop is Sweet Treats! Our posts will feature projects of anything "sweet" that would be a "treat" to receive.
{you'll find Product Purchase Links for current items I've used, below the Blog Roll}

My project is kind of a TBT (throw back thursday) project. Years ago I made a Ghirardelli Chocolate Square Holder Tutorial, but the Word Window Punch I used for it has long since retired. We now have the Classic Label Punch available, and you can make the project pretty much the same way by subbing in that punch! If you don't want to look at the past tutorial, all you need to know is that you cut a sheet of card stock to 3"x8" for the base, then score the card stock at 3-7/8" and at 4-1/8". You only punch the slot on one side of the card stock.

To get my Classic Label Punch to make the slot in the right place for the chocolate square, I measured about 1/4" from the bottom of the depressed circle of the punch on the back, and made a line across with permanent marker. Then, I just line up the end of my cardstock with that line, and punch! The cardstock is 3" wide, so you can just barely see the edges of the cardstock sticking out of each side of the punch if you tilt it to either side - and that's how you can see it's centered, as well.

The old tutorial also uses a retired Slot Punch to make holes for the ribbon. In later years I subbed in a Handheld Circle Punch, but now we don't carry those, either. It's really not a problem, though, because there are 3 other methods you could use to close/secure the treat holder without using any other punch: 1) wrap ribbon around the treat holder in a bow or knot, 2) staple the top of the treat holder and then wrap ribbon around (or just adhere a trimmed bow over the staple), and 3) adhere the holder closed with SNAIL Adhesive or Tear & Tape Adhesive and then wrap ribbon around or adhere a trimmed bow.

If you use SNAIL Adhesive, be sure to put adhesive on both sides of the inside top of the holder, to give it extra strength. And when you close it, make sure the top edges are lined up exactly with one another. I actually prefer stapling the holder closed, because I line up the center of the Petal Pink Metallic Edge Ribbon to the center of the back side of the holder, and the staple keeps the ribbon from sliding off...and the bow covers the staple.

TIPS: You can cut out the center of the Heart Doily with the flat sided punch from the Heart Punch Pack, then you layer the scalloped heart that you punched from the From My Heart Specialty Designer Series Paper with the scalloped heart punch from the Heart Punch Pack over the top. You can't tell the center of the doily is gone, and you have that extra piece you can use on something else! You will also want to be sure to use the StazOn Jet Black Ink Pad if you are going to stamp on the From My Heart Specialty Designer Series Paper like I have, because other inks are not going to dry on the shiny foil bits of that paper.
