We Create Blog Hop - New Year, New Products

Welcome to the January 2020 New Year, New Products Blog Hop!!! We generally hop on the first of every month, and this month we are creating projects using products from the upcoming 2020 Jan-May Mini Catalog, and 2020 Sale-a-Bration Brochure! These products will be available to purchase and EARN, starting January 3rd.

As I mentioned above, Stampin' Up! will have a NEW Mini Catalog debuting on January 3rd. Sale-a-Bration 2020 also starts January 3rd, and that is a promotion that allows you to get FREE items through March 31st when you SPEND, HOST, or JOIN! I'll put up a separate post with all the details on Sale-a-Bration shortly, but keep in mind for now, you can get The Gang's All Meer Cling-Mount Stamp Set that is featured on my card, when you SPEND $50 USD during Sale-a-Bration.

Before I get into the card details, I want to share a quick video explaining how you can separate some of the images in this Cling-Mount stamp set, as you are putting the indexing stickers on them, so you can use them individually: {if you are viewing this post in email, click on the title of the post to view the video in your browser.}

Although this card uses the Stitched So Sweetly Dies (for which you will need a cutting machine), I wanted to keep the supplies relatively simple. To do that, I paired some products together that come in assortments - namely, the Subtles 8-1/2" x 11" Cardstock Assortment, the Watercolor Pencils Assortment 2. Plus, I only used one ink pad: StazOn Jet Black Ink Pad. That way, if you want to recreate this card, you can easily purchase just the items you don't have, to bring your merchandise total up to $50 USD to get the Meerkat stamp set for FREE!

For this card, even though I had separated the lines of the birthday greeting, I chose to stamp the whole greeting all at once, and then trim out the parts I wanted to use separately from the stamped cardstock. I actually kind of messed it up the first time, so I would have been better off stamping them separately!

The StazOn Jet Black Ink Pad is perfect for using with the Watercolor Pencils, and the Aqua Painters, as it is a waterproof ink. You can always stamp in StazOn, and then decide later if you want to watercolor with the pencils, or just color your elements with the pencils and no water. If you think you'd like to watercolor, like I did with the Meerkat group on my card, I highly recommend you go ahead and stamp on our Watercolor Paper. It will allow for more movement and blending of your pencil color, and it is made to hold up to a lot of water...so it won't buckle and warp.

You can see that I used a combination of dry pencil and watercolored pencil on my card. I wanted the color on the cactus images shown above, but I didn't want the black lines to be as dark as they are on the Meerkats, so I inked up the cactus in StazOn, then stamped it off TWICE on my Grid Paper, before stamping on the Soft Seafoam Cardstock (from the Subtles Cardstock Asst.). Then, I colored the images loosely with dry pencil.

I used the Crushed Curry and the Cajun Craze colors from the Watercolor Pencil Assortment 2 to color the Meerkats. I scribbled the Crushed Curry around lightly on them first, then came back in and scribbled some Cajun Craze around the edges to highlight their fur in a few places. After the color was laid down, I used an Aqua Painter filled with water to blend the colors. I tend to use very little water when I use the Aqua Painters - I always have some paper towel nearby to dab off the extra water.

Stampin' Supplies: The Gang's All Meer Cling-Mount stamp set (Sale-a-Bration FREE Item), Watercolor Pencil Assortment 2, Subtles Cardstock Assortment, Watercolor Paper, StazOn Jet Black Ink Pad (I suggest getting the refill at the same time you buy the pad), Aqua Painters, Stitched So Sweetly Dies (2020 Jan-May Mini Catalog product), Paper Snips, SNAIL Adhesive, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals, Stampin' Scrub & Stampin' Mist (to clean red rubber stamps), Grid Paper, Paper Trimmer (to cut and score cardstock). {Don't forget your Medium Whisper White Envelopes for your cards!}
