A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop - Something for Everything

Welcome to our December 2019 #APaperPumpkinThing Blog Hop. Each month we share alternate projects using Stampin' Up!'s Paper Pumpkin Kit! We usually hop on the last Thursday of the month, but that was the day after Christmas so we postponed it a week.

Our Paper Pumpkin kit for December was called Something for Everything. It came with supplies to make 12 full-size cards, with coordinating envelopes. There were 4 each of 3 different designs that you could customize with your choice of 13 greetings (and some adorable little flower images) from the stamp set! Below is a picture of how the projects look if you make them according to the kit directions.

For my projects this month, I decided to make a box and a card. Once again, I stuck pretty close to the kit contents for my alternates. In fact, the only supplies I used other than what came in the kit was the Paper Snips and Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Actually, I guess I did use one more...I used our Paper Trimmer to score and trim a couple of pieces.

For my card, I cut the flowery front off of one card base, so it was 4-1/4"x5-1/2". Then I cut that piece in half, so it was 5-1/2"x2-1/8". I layered that onto the Crushed Curry side of another card base. There is a polka dot pattern that the instructions say to use as the front, but I find the dots to be too busy in the background of the flowery piece. To each his own! The gold swirl, and the pinkish separate flowers are self-adhesive pieces from the kit, as are the golden rhinestones in the flower centers. The banner with the greeting is another die cut from the kit, and I adhered it with some Stampin' Dimensionals that also came in the kit.

The box I made for this hop is one I've made a few times before with Paper Pumpkin kits. I have an easy pattern you can follow in this BOX TUTORIAL VIDEO in this post from several years ago. The only things I did different were: 1) I used Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the box flaps together, and 2) I used the other 5-1/2"x2-1/8" flowery piece I had leftover from making the card, to lay over the box and fold back on itself to make a flap to help open the box instead of cutting a half circle in the front of the lid.

The rest of the stuff decorating the box came from the Paper Pumpkin kit. The big flower and the leaves are self-adhesive die cuts, and I actually cut one leaf in half with my Paper Snips and tucked each piece under the edge of each side of the big flower, to make it look like two leaves. The greetings were stamped with the Terracotta Tile ink spot that came in the kit.

I didn't really measure the flowery strip, I just laid it over the top of the lid, starting at the back, and just kinda creased where the folds landed. Then I pulled the piece away from the box and sharpened the crease. Then I laid it back on the box and did the next crease that way, and so on...until I got down to the front of the lid. Whatever length of the strip was left, was just folded onto itself to make the tab. I used Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the strip down to the box, and to adhere the strip to itself at the end to make the tab.

The great thing about using the Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue for the box, is that the glue also works as a temporary adhesive to help keep those back bottom corners of the lid from sticking out. To create a temporary bond, put just a little dab of glue on the inside of each of the back bottom corners of the lid -- and be sure you don't touch the adhesive to any other part of the box until it is DRY. Once the adhesive is dry, you can press it against the box and it should stick just enough to keep the ends of those flaps against the box when it's closed. Or, you can even stick the flaps to the sides of the box to keep it partially open, like I've done above.
