Page a Day in May: 1 (Purring Kitty)

I've gotten a late start on my Page a Day in May Challenge, so I'm posting yesterday's page today. The subject matter reflects the cause of my tardiness! This past weekend it was like having a newborn baby again...sans childbirth. My kitty (Sneakers) hurt his leg somehow, and I had to carry him around to eat and potty over the weekend. The vet says it's probably just a bad sprain, and to baby him a couple more days to let him recover. Poor Kitty.

This page is part of a Designer Template, which comes as a 12-page Summer Home album template in My Digital Studio. I really like the colors in this template, but not the flowery embellishments. So, I just took out the flowers and added some clouds from the Sunset Serenade bundle instead. It's SOOO easy to put together an album like this!

Stampin' Supplies: My Digital Studio CD, Sunset Serenade Stamp Brush Set (available as part of the Sunset Serenade Digital Download Bundle, on sale this month!).

Summer Mini Catalog Debuts

The NEW 2011 Summer Mini Catalog debuts May 1st, and is active through August 31st! Please allow me to walk you through some of the really COOL products featured in this catalog...

EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITION HOSTESS PRODUCTS:
This mini catalogs debuts a completely NEW type of free Hostess product. It is a DIGITAL CONTENT CD called Cheerful Treat, available as a Hostess Level 1 set. The digital content includes a 12-piece stamp set, 12 Designer Series Papers, and 30 embellishments. Just have a Workshop with at least $150 in sales and this Limited Edition content CD is YOURS! You could also choose the Swirls & Curls Verses Hostess stamp set starting at the $150 level, and the Level 2 stamp set Love & Care at the $300 level. Hey, if you have a $400 Workshop you can get BOTH stamp sets for FREE!!! These sets are ONLY going to be available for 3 months, so contact me to book your Workshop TODAY!

TRIPLE LAYER PUNCHES & MORE:
Oh WOW, you have to see these to believe them. You can get THREE DIFFERENT punched pieces from ONE punch! I am normally not at all a flower-lover, but the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch looks so totally cute with the Bold Blossom stamp set that I had to get them BOTH! And we finally have a Postage Stamp Punch, and even a cute stamp set that coordinates.

MANLY MEN PRODUCTS:
Okay, that's not what they're called, that's just my name for them. But this mini catalog has a FANTASTIC line-up of products that are just perfect to use for projects involving the men in your life! There are several nautical-themed products, and seriously, you can get a (stamp) set of ties for Father's Day!

SEASONAL SETS:
Of course, the Summer Mini Catalog has plenty of fun summer-themed stamp sets, featuring flowers and fishies, fudge-sicles and flip-flops, seashells and surfboards, etc. There's an awesome star-spangled banner flag stamp, and some fun school-themed sets including playground activities, the alphabet, apples, and crayons! Again, I am NOT a flower-lover, but I had to have the Flower Fest stamp set because it's so stinkin' easy to use, with all the punches that coordinate! And I figured I could use it with the 6 different sayings in the Happy Greetings stamp set to make tons and tons of quick and cute cards (at the last minute, as always).

FOR THE BIRDS:
You birdie-lovers are going to get a kick out of the Proud Peacock stamp set, and the cute little birds and birdbath in the Touch of Kindness stamp set, and there's even a cute little singing birdie on word 'hello' in the Swirls & Curls Verses Hostess stamp set!

FABULOUS FLORETS:
No, not broccoli florets. There is a huge suite of products in the Summer Mini Catalog revolving around a specific floral theme. It starts with the images in the Fabulous Florets stamp set and the coordinating Flower Garden Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Then those images are carried over to the Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper, and the colors of that paper are carried over in three NEW Stampin' Emboss powders in Tangerine Tango, Melon Mambo, and Wild Wasabi. This is way cool for you flower-lovers, but I like broccoli better ;-)

STRENGTH & HOPE BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FUNDRAISER:
Stampin' Up! will donate $2 from every purchase of a Strength & Hope stamp set or a Strength & Hope Digital Kit, to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Aside from the fundraiser appeal, if you love butterflies and pretty things, you will LOVE this stamp set. (And if your name happens to be Hope, this set will provide you with a fantastic monogram stamp for personalized stationery!)

MY DIGITAL STUDIO EXPRESS:
Even though it's not really featured in a hugely obvious way in the mini catalog, the new My Digital Studio Express became available for customer purchase on May 1st. This is a condensed, downloadable version of Stampin' Up!'s digital crafting software. You have to order from me through my Online Store, but it's half the price of the full version. It does not come with tons of content--the idea is that you can customize the content to your personal style with digital downloads. (Watch for a post with details and software comparisons, coming soon!)

THE REST OF THE STORY:
(If you don't get that reference, just Google Paul Harvey.) A few more notables in this awesome mini catalog are the Baker's Twine (in plain white as well as Cherry Cobbler and Early Espresso striped!); a travel-themed stamp set which includes a date/month image and a road map background image; and a Simply Scrappin' Kit in bright summer colors with tons of flowers and polka dots! I can't believe we have all this, PLUS our National Scrapbooking Month 30% OFF Specials in May, and a new Idea Book & Catalog coming out in July!!!

Click HERE or on the catalog image at the top of this post, and browse the 2011 Summer Mini Catalog, then leave me a comment below and tell me your favorite product(s)!

Page a Day in May for Nat'l Scrapbooking Month

Since May is National Scrapbooking Month, I wanted to share my Page a Day in May idea with you.  I want to challenge myself to make a scrapbook page each day during the month of May.  I decided to share the concept with you now, in case you're interested in playing along...because if you're like me, you'll need a little prep time to make sure you get your pictures gathered, and develop (heh heh) an idea of what you want to accomplish.  Here are some suggestions to get your scrap-brain churning:

Start Recent and Work Backwards

This is self-explanatory, start with your most recent photos and work backwards.  Sometimes it's easier to get started this way instead of hunting for baby pictures from 20 years ago.  A variation of this theme is just to work with whatever is most accessible.  If your wedding pictures are at the top of your shoebox, work with those.  If you have a disc of Easter pictures sitting next to your computer, use those.

Work with a Theme
Maybe you want to create a birthday book for your kid(s)...one that just shows them on every birthday up until they moved out.  The same type of theme works for school years, just get out those pics from each grade.  Other quick and easy themes are family vacations, weddings, anniversaries, holidays, memorial books, high school reunions, a "friends" album, a grandkids album, and don't forget that you can make a ME album.

Work with Borrowed Creativity
Seriously, purchase My Digital Studio and use the Designer Templates provided with the software!  There are several albums with pages already completed.  For your "page a day", just insert a picture and some journaling, and you are DONE.  Same thing goes for any of the Simply Scrappin' Kits Stampin' Up! offers--there are page ideas included right on the package.  Look at someone else's page and use their layout for inspiration...or just copy it exactly and put your own pictures in there!

Use What You've Got First!
Listen, if you want to buy the entire catalog of Stampin' Up! merchandise from me, I'm not going to complain...lol!  But if you have a closet or drawer full of stuff you "meant" to use for scrapbooking, then by all means, pull that out and use it FIRST.  Sometimes your inspiration for a page or an album can start with your supplies.  I know people who buy the supplies they love, and then go home and stage pictures that will coordinate with those supplies!  No, not me, I'm not that organizationally evolved yet.

NOTE: If you bought your supplies ten years ago and they just aren't your style anymore, then at least set them aside to sell or give away, before you do anything else.  Don't just pull them out, gag and cringe, and chuck those supplies back in the closet!  Why?  Because every time you take out your scrapbooking supplies after that, you will have unsavory thoughts, and that can sabotage your creativity.  Make sure you love what you see, and that you are excited to use your supplies.  Oh, and USE the things you're excited about, don't just keep storing/hoarding them (note to self).

Remember, you don't have to make a page that will go in an album, you can frame a page and hang it on the wall.  There are also lots of fun mini-album ideas that can be done with basically a page or two of card stock.  I'll try to feature some of these ideas throughout the month of May on my blog.  If you do a mini-album comprised of more than one page, do your assembly one day and then put in the photos, journaling, and embellishments the second day, and that can technically be "a page a day".  If you don't have time til the weekend, get your supplies gathered and set aside during the week and sketch out your page ideas, then do 7 pages on Sunday.  (This can be a great family activity, and a fun introduction to genealogy!)  However you do it, be sure to capture the Who, When, Where, Why, and What on each page, layout, or compilation (if you frame it, you may want to put the info on the back).  The subject matter is obvious to you now, but will it be to anyone else 20 years from now?

And, you don't have to scrapbook every picture you have.  Just pick the ones you really like looking at, and put them somewhere you can enjoy them!  On the other hand, you don't have to have any photos of people on your scrapbook page.  You can scrapbook your pets, you could create an alphabet book for your toddler with pictures of different animals, or you could just fill out a nostalgia page (just capture some of your personal memories from different times in your life), or a descriptive page (talk about the subject of your page and use words and journaling to create an image, literally and/or figuratively).  Or, if you love cooking, do a Page a Day Cookbook for May, and take pictures of the finished dish for each recipe.  Have fun with it!

On a closing note, sometimes we get so busy recording others' memories that we forget to record our own.  I suggest that if you are creating an album, take a page at the beginning or end to write a little about yourself, and your thoughts surrounding the album, and why you made it.  Be sure to date it.  How many times have we seen a cute or cool album and wondered whose thoughts and creativity were all over those pages?  Think of it as a provenance for a masterpiece...it increases the value exponentially for the owner!

Anyway, I hope that gets your mind moving, and I hope you will join me for my Page a Day in May challenge.

Another Stationery Box (Updated)

A little over two years ago I posted a stationery box that would hold 4 cards and 4 envelopes. You can check out my previous sample HERE.

Today I'm posting an updated version of that boxed set, featuring the Paisley Prints Designer Series Paper and the Four Frames stamp set, available through this month's Spring Is Blossoming Special. This would make a great Mother's Day gift--but you'll need to order the supplies on special, by 4/30/2011!

Click HERE to view or download the stationery box pattern.

The box pattern uses an 8x12 sheet, which is ideal if you are using a sheet of Designer Series Paper. The remaining 4x12 strip can be cut into two 4x5-1/4 pieces which are the perfect size to layer on front of coordinating standard sized cards. You can theoretically get NINE BOXED SETS of 4 cards and 4 envelopes, out of one 12 sheet package of Designer Series Paper, though the printed paper patterns within each boxed set will vary. Just make sure you have a selection of coordinating card stock colors, or go with a coordinating neutral color like River Rock (like I used on my cards), or Crumb Cake.

Stampin' Supplies: Four Frames stamp set, Short & Sweet stamp set, Paisley Prints Designer Series Paper, Not Quite Navy card stock & ink, Baja Breeze card stock & seam binding ribbon, River Rock card stock, Chocolate Chip ink, Decorative Label Punch, Pearl Jewels, Stampin' SpongeSNAIL (use on both surfaces when adhering box sides, for extra hold), Stampin' Dimensionals. (Don't forget to order Medium White Envelopes)
