A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop - Batter Up

Welcome to our MAY 2021 #APaperPumpkinThing Blog Hop. Each month we share alternate projects using Stampin' Up!'s Paper Pumpkin Kit! We usually hop on the last Thursday of the month, but snail mail is living up to its name and then some, so we waited an extra week to allow more folks to get their kits and create with them.

My alternate project this month is a card and a bookmark. I usually try to stick close to the kit contents when making my alternates, but this time I had an idea and wanted to go with it. I used Thick Basic White Cardstock, Multipurpose Liquid Glue, a Bone Folder and the Paper Trimmer, which are basic supplies, but also added several more supplies.

Our Paper Pumpkin kit for May was called Batter Up. It came with supplies to create 9 full-sized cards, 3 each of 3 different designs. Above is a picture of how the projects would look if you make them according to the kit directions. I'm not really a baseball fan, so I decided to use one of the backgrounds as sunrays, and a bit of an envelope liner as water.

I used our Blending Brushes with the Pale Papaya Ink Pad to add the yellow to the sun rays. Then I turned one of the die-cut baseballs over and used the Blending Brushes with the Pale Papaya Ink Pad again, and then used the Polished Pink Ink Pad to blend into that, to create the sun. I colored it as the whole ball, then cut it and only used half on the card. I used the brushes and those same two inks on a bit of Vellum Cardstock that I cut out by hand, using the baseball as a guideline for the shape. I then brushed Multipurpose Liquid Glue evenly over the back of the vellum piece and adhered it under the sun, as a reflection. I used the fat stylus tip on the Take Your Pick Tool, up against the straight edge of my Clear Block, to mark horizontal lines across the vellum...lined up with the stripes. It's very subtle, but I think it helps add to idea of a reflection. The blue striped piece of an envelope liner was colored with the Coastal Cabana Ink Pad, also using the Blender Brushes.

The greeting of the card was stamped with the Pacific Point Ink Pad onto Thick Basic White Cardstock, and was also brushed with color from the Coastal Cabana Ink Pad. The 'friend' sentiment is another stamp from the kit, which was stamped with the Night of Navy Ink Pad (using the Stampin' Spot that came in the kit), and then the whole greeting was cut out by hand using Paper Snips. The bookmark is the other side of the sunray background that was left over, and the sun is the other half of the back of the baseball die-cut that I used on the card. I added a couple of the little resin dots that came in the Paper Pumpkin kit, to the card, and to the bookmark. I also used 12" of the white twine that came with the kit, to add a little tassel (of sorts) to the bookmark.
