We Create Blog Hop - Showers of Greetings

Welcome to the April 2020 Showers of Greeting Blog Hop!!! We generally hop on the first day of every month, and this month we are creating projects with pretty much any greeting! My post is more focused on rain showers, and includes items from the Under My Umbrella BUNDLE!

I am once again featuring a card I made at a shoebox swap, which was designed by a fellow demonstrator. I'm not sure why the Whisper White Cardstock on my card is coming through with a yellow tint, but I cannot guarantee that it is actually Stampin' Up! cardstock since I got the supplies from someone else. I guess this can kind of serve as a cautionary tale - you might be able to buy some "bulk" cardstock, or somehow grab something cheaper elsewhere, but you lose quality.

This is a closeup of the paper piecing using the Best Dressed Designer Series Paper on the umbrella tops. In the Under My Umbrella BUNDLE, there is a punch you can use for this, but we didn't have it at the shoebox swap so I just used my Paper Snips and did it by hand. It actually went rather quickly and wasn't an issue at all.

Because this was a shoebox swap, I just used the supplies that were provided to make the card. I generally stamp the images I don't have, in the colors provided, and according to the sample...but often I don't put them together until I get home. On this card, the sample only had the die cut for the greeting, and it was put in the orientation as it's shown here. But I felt like there was just a lot of awkward white space, so I added some color around the Stitched Nested Dies label by using the Pool Party Ink Pad and a Stampin' Sponge. Then, I added a small bow with Whisper White 5/8" Polka Dot Tulle, and changed out the plain rhinestone for a colored one from the Holiday Basic Rhinestones Assortment.

The card sample at the shoebox swap was mounted on Basic Black Cardstock, but that felt really dark and heavy to me. It's kind of hard to see because of this angle, but my card base is actually made from Pool Party Cardstock. Then I mounted the focal layer onto some Purple Posy Cardstock before putting it on the base. The positioning of the label with the greeting still left more awkward space, so I cut and trimmed 3 angled lines from a small strip of Purple Posy I had left from layering, and stacked them over the greeting. Finally, I added 3 more of the smaller Holiday Basic Rhinestones around the focal layer of the card. I feel like it's dressed up a little more, and is a bit lighter and more playful than it would have been on a black background.

Stampin' Supplies: Under My Umbrella BUNDLE (stamp set + punch), Whisper White Cardstock, Purple Posy Cardstock, Pool Party Cardstock & Ink Pad, Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad, Best Dressed Designer Series Paper, Whisper White 5/8" Polka Dot Tulle, Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Stitched Nested Labels Dies, Stampin' Sponge, Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals, Simply Shammy (to clean photopolymer stamps), Grid Paper, Paper Snips, Paper Trimmer (to cut and score cardstock), Medium Whisper White Envelopes (for mailing!). {you will need a die cutting machine to use the Stitched Nested Labels Dies}

  1. I need to break this punch out! We've pretty much had rain the whole last week and I'm hoping for some better weather...but this card makes me want to dance in the rain!
