A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop - Pining for Plaid

This month is our SEVENTH #APaperPumpkinThing Blog Hop. Our kit this month is called Pining for Plaid, and it came with supplies to make 10 shaker cards with envelopes! It's meant to coordinate with next month's kit, and also with the Merry Little Christmas Mega Suite. Once again, I tried to stick closely to the Paper Pumpkin kit supplies, but I had to add a few other fun products ;-)

Inside the box there is a simple paper medallion ornament, and the "card" is actually made from an envelope folded in half...it holds a gift card inside. I've got all my pictures loaded, and I'll be back later to provide more description and detail. Sorry, I have a sinus/throat thing that's going into my ears and I can hardly think right now!

Whew! That took a few days, hopefully these yukkies are just about out of my system. You can see the box closed, below, and it's about 4" square by about 1" tall. The ornament shaker layer from the Paper Pumpkin kit was about 3-3/4" wide, so I cut the top off to make it 3-3/4" tall. That was the perfect size to layer on top of the box. Everything but the actual card stock box itself, the Soft Sky 3/8" Classic Weave Ribbon, and the Pool Party ink (for the snowflakes and Glad Tidings saying), is from the October 2017 Pining for Plaid Paper Pumpkin Kit (which SOLD OUT--sorry!).

The little medallion ornament fits neatly inside the box, which stays closed with friction, so there's no need to rip open any glued parts, or undo any pretty ribbons to get inside. The medallion features the Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper, and the Foil Snowflakes.

I wanted to do a quick video for you, showing how easy these medallion ornaments are to make...but I think I'll let you Google it for now. I call them medallions, but you can also find tutorials under the keyword "rosette" or "lolly". I used the Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper, two strips that each measured 1-3/4" x 12". I scored each strip at 1/2" intervals--and don't listen to any tutorials that tell you to cut any ends off. All you need to do is accordion fold each strip (after scoring) starting in the opposite direction (forward or back) from the first fold you made on the other one. Then the mountain/valley ends of each strip match perfectly to adhere together. I used the Simply Scored Board, and I always use the large end of the stylus when I score Designer Series Paper.

On the back of the ornament, you can see the 1-1/2" Circle Punch of Old Olive card stock, which is where I hot glued down the center of the medallion. On the front, I dropped a little hot glue down to adhere the Foil Snowflake, then stamped and layered a 1-1/2" Circle Punch of Old Olive card stock on top with Stampin' Dimensionals (I used extra bits from the Paper Pumpkin kit). I used Pool Party ink for the little "rays" on the Old Olive card stock, and Cherry Cobbler ink (which came in the kit) for the Season's Greetings saying. There's a little loop of Old Olive Striped Baker's Twine hot glued on back for hanging. Easy peasy :-D

Below you'll find the dimensions and directions for the box. Start with a 6" x 11" piece of Old Olive card stock. The Merry Little Christmas Cardstock Pack is perfect for this project as it contains 12 sheets of 12x12 Old Olive card stock, plus you'll get 12 sheets of 12x12 Kraft card stock, to make different colored boxes and embellishments! Just score, cut, and adhere as shown in the photo below. TIP: If you want a little thumb notch to easily open the box, partially punch a Circle Punch at the center of box's top front panel before adhering.

Next up is my little gift card holder, made from some of the card parts of the October 2017 Pining for Plaid Paper Pumpkin Kit, as well as one of the envelopes from the kit. Again, I added a Foil Snowflake, some Pool Party ink for stamping snowflakes (from the kit stamp set), and some Pool Party 3/8" Classic Weave Ribbon. The pretty, sparkly sequins came in the kit.

The envelope was just folded in half, with the flap cut down the middle. I sealed the flap down on the left side, and covered that side with a small piece of Whisper White card stock. I used Soft Sky ink to stamp the "rays" at the top and bottom of that piece, and to stamp some snowflakes on the right bottom corner of the inside of the envelope. The greeting is stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink, and I actually took the time to trim the snipped side of the envelope flap in the same curve as the original flap. It's better if you don't adhere that flap, and then the person receiving it doesn't have to tear up your pretty artwork to get the card out!

This last shot is showing the gift card peeking out a bit. You can see that it will stay tucked in there quite securely when the flap is down, and the gift card holder is tied closed.

Stampin' Supplies: October 2017 Pining for Plaid Paper Pumpkin Kit, Old Olive Card Stock (from the 12x12 Merry Little Christmas Card Stock Pack), Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper, Pool Party ink pad, Embossing Buddy, Old Olive Striped Baker's Twine, Metallic Foil Snowflakes (gold), 1-1/2" Circle Punch, Pool Party Classic Weave Ribbon, Stampin' Trimmer (for trimming and scoring), Paper Snips, Fast Fuse Adhesive, Silicone Craft Sheet, Hot Glue Gun.

Unfortunately, the Pining for Plaid Kit is completely sold out, but you can still grab other goodies the on the PAST KITS page in my Online Store. There are some full Kits, but many are Refills which include the consumables only, meaning everything but the stamp set & ink pad. By the way, you're gonna have to be a Paper Pumpkin subscriber to buy whatever's available, so go ahead and sign up HERE to get your email address in the system first!

Anytime is a great time to sign up for Paper Pumpkin, but as I said at the top of the post, the next kit will offer coordinating holiday projects in this same theme called A Season of Style. You'll want to sign up no later than 11:59pm MT on November 10th to take delivery of that kit

Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop - Halloween

Welcome to the 14th Edition of the
Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop! You'll see projects from stampers from around the world--I'm in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This month our theme is a HALLOWEEN!!! I chose to work with the Spooky Night DSP, to make coordinating cards using the Spooky Cat stamp set PLUS the Spooky Cat Punch. You can get those last two together in the Spooky Cat BUNDLE for 10% OFF!

I decided to make a couple of simple cards, you can see both of them together in the above picture. My goal was to use the two patterns in the Spooky Night Designer Series Paper (DSP) that were designed to be cut out of the paper. You can see the two different designs below, and you get two of each sheet. So, here's the math on the total images you can get: there are 15 full black cats and 15 full orange cats on each cat sheet (x2 sheets); there are 12 spooky tree images on each tree sheet (x2 sheets). That's a boatload of these cards you could make--which in the real world means 54!

Another goal for this project was not to use a bajillion supplies. I used Sahara Sand card stock for the card bases (you can make 48 card bases with two packs), and Very Vanilla card stock for some layers. These are both fabulous neutral colors that will serve you well beyond making these cards. To coordinate with the DSP, I chose the Pumpkin Pie card stock & Pumpkin Pie ink pad, plus the Basic Black card stock & Basic Black Archival ink pad. I personally added the use of the Basic Black marker and a Blender Pen, for touching up the owl after I stamped it on the DSP (I can't use a Blender Pen as well with the Archival ink, because of the waterproof properties of that pad). Our DSP seems to be very slightly coated, which gives it a beautiful sheen, but sometimes the ink doesn't stick as well as I'd like. I color with the Basic Black marker on the inside of the Basic Black Archival ink pad, to use it as a palette, and then dip my Blender Pen into it and lightly color over the areas of the owl I want to darken.

Another little supply I added is Stampin' Sponges. It's another staple item that will last you through many projects. I cut mine in 4ths or sometimes even 6ths, and use them with a single ink color, keeping them in a jewelry sized ziploc bag after use so they don't transfer ink on anything else. You can see how I sponged Basic Black Archival ink, and Pumpkin Pie ink, on the Everyday Label Punch on each of the cards. Oh, and if you check out the cool little spider web frame around the words on those labels, you'll notice that mine look a little bit different from the image in the stamp set. You can use your Basic Black marker to ink up ONLY the parts of the stamp that you want. Or, if you're like me, and you don't want to have to stare at little tiny lines wondering if you really inked them up or not, you can carefully cut the word arcs from the top and bottom of that photopolymer stamp, and only mount the center part of the stamp to ink it up in an ink pad, if that's the only part you want. Keep the cut away word arcs with the stamp set, of course, and then you can line them back up with the stamp image when you mount it, if you DO want them there!

Stampin' Supplies: Spooky Night DSP, Spooky Cat Bundle (stamp set + punch), Basic Black Archival ink, Basic Black card stock & marker, Pumpkin Pie card stock & ink pad, Crumb Cake card stock, Very Vanilla card stock, Stampin' Sponges, Everyday Label Punch, Layering Circles Framelits.

And don't forget envelopes for your cards, so you can #MakeACardSendACard!!! Our Very Vanilla Medium Envelopes would coordinate purrfectly (see what I did there?) with these cards. There are 40 envelopes in each package, so be sure to order as many packages as you need!

Unfortunately, the Spooky Night DSP is not one of the select items included in the Designer Series Paper Sale going on now through October 31st, but you might find something else you like there, so hop on over to my Online Store and make sure you don't miss out on any bargains ;-)

Spooky Cat - October Step It Up Blog Hop

Welcome to the October 2017 Edition of the We Create Bloggers Step It Up Blog Hop! The theme is to inspire stampers with a basic design, and at least one alternate "stepped up" version of that same design. My projects this month feature several items from the Spooky Night Suite in the NEW Stampin' Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog! Check out both of my projects side by side, below:

Below is my original, or simple, version. I made the medallion with Spooky Night Designer Series Paper, and punched the cat image out of the paper using the Cat Punch. I just noticed there's no stamping on this version!

I used some Basic Black Vintage Crochet Trim under the Starburst Punch. {Truth in Advertising here...I used a retired 2-3/8" Scallop Punch, punched twice, to simulate the Starburst Punch...because I forgot to order it!}

Yes, I had to break out the glue gun to make these puppies kitties, which I don't do often, because I'm lazy. But when I do break out the glue gun, I never do it without a Silicone Craft Sheet!

Stampin' Supplies: Spooky Night Designer Series Paper, Pumpkin Pie card stock, Cat Punch, Starburst Punch, Metallic Doilies (gold), Basic Black Vintage Crochet Trim, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

Below is my "stepped up" version of the medallion--which has the same Spooky Night Designer Series Paper foundation. I do have a few little tricks on this treat...

Do you see that 7/8" Striped Ribbon? It's part of the Merry Little Christmas Suite, and I wanted to color it...which I would not have been able to do EXCEPT with an alcohol marker, because the white part is sort of painted on and regular markers and ink won't color it. And this is where I have a secret to tell you. Stampin' Up! is coming out with their blendable alcohol markers again SOON! I don't have a customer release date, but I'm going to preorder mine TODAY as a Demonstrator :-) Expect to see a lot of Sneak Peeks of the NEW Stampin' Blends here on my blog!

And, check out the doily in this close up...it's Very Vanilla, or at least that's what color it's supposed to look like. I used one of the Delicate White Doilies, and colored it using So Saffron ink and an Aqua Painter (which watered down the color quite a bit). I colored it right on that Silicone Craft Sheet I mentioned earlier, then dried it right on that same mat with my Heat Tool. Once it was completely dry, I trimmed the outer edging off the doily, and then I stamped the owl eyes from the Spooky Cat Stamp Set around it using Basic Black Archival ink. They fit PURRFECTLY! Lol. The stripes on the Pumpkin Pie card stock are from another image in the Spooky Cat Stamp Set, and they were also stamped in Basic Black Archival ink, but I stamped them off once on scratch paper so they'd be a little lighter.

Stampin' Supplies: Spooky Night Designer Series Paper, Delicate White Doilies, So Saffron ink pad, Aqua Painter, Silicone Mat, Heat Tool, Pumpkin Pie card stock, Cat Punch, Starburst Punch, 7/8" Striped Ribbon, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

Click the pointing hand image below to hop to Kris's blog next, and see what fancy stepping she's got going on this month...
