We Create Red White and Blue Blog Hop

Welcome to the July 2019 We Create Red, White & Blue Blog Hop!!! We generally hop on the first of every month, and this month we are creating RED, WHITE, and BLUE projects! My card features a stamp set called Birthday Backgrounds, and uses one little sentiment from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set. {scroll to the bottom of this post for ALL product purchase links}

I have to confess, I've been terrible the last several months about getting on a schedule I can keep up with, and here I am the evening before a hop again, putting together a project at the last minute! Since the first week in November, I've had a few flare-ups of my trigeminal neuralgia, and since the end of April I've been trying to get rid of what I guess was walking pneumonia. I thought I was pretty much over that, finally, but then I had another "coughing up a lung" episode this morning out of the blue, so I guess there's more healing that needs to happen. But...back to my card...

For my colors, I chose Real Red, Blueberry Bushel, and good ol' Whisper White. I've kept it rather simple, just stamping the main "bursts" in Real Red at the top of the background layer. Then I stamped a couple more bursts in Blueberry Bushel on a scrap piece, and cut out bits to adhere over the background using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

To get the look of "firecrackers", I used the candles from the Birthday Backgrounds stamp set, inked up in Real Red, then used a wooden toothpick to scrape away the ink to make them look striped (see below). It really takes hardly any time at all, and I could have done a better job but I was honestly in a hurry...and I think it still turned out fine.

The Blueberry Bushel speckles from the Birthday Greetings stamp set made great filler below and around the "bursts". The stamp is fairly small, so it fits nice and snug right near the bursts, and all I had to do was lay a scrap piece of paper over the firecrackers at the bottom to mask them, so they wouldn't get ink on them.

The CELEBRATE greeting along the bottom is from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set. It's a fantastic year-round set to have, with a greeting for just about any occasion - 32 greetings in all! That's a lot of bang for your buck!!! Lol, get it? Cuz my card has firecrackers on it??
