A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop - Layered Leaves

This month marks our SIXTH #APaperPumpkinThing Blog Hop. Our kit this month is called Layered Leaves, and it came with supplies to make 8 pillow boxes and 8 (3"x3") cards with envelopes. Once again, I tried to stick closely to the Paper Pumpkin kit supplies, but I couldn't resist bringing in a couple more things to bring some Halloween projects to life! Here's what came in the kit:

Below you'll see both my projects together. I used 3 of the 8 pillow boxes for my pumpkin basket, and one side of another pillow box to put on the front of my card. I didn't use any of the 3"x3" foldover cards or envelopes for my projects, but I think I touched on everything else.

I added the Spooky Cat stamp set to both of these projects (which you can get in a BUNDLE with the Cat Punch at 10% OFF). For the basket I added Basic Black card stock for the handle, as well as sponging some Pumpkin Pie ink over the embossed designs on the pillow boxes.

In order to make the basket, I opened up 3 of the pillow boxes and adhered them together in a circle. Then, I cut 3 strips from the cardboard backing that comes in the Paper Pumpkin kit, at 1" x 5-1/2". I glued them with Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive across the bottom flaps of the circle of attached pillow boxes. Check out the pictures below for an inside and outside shot of those strips. If you look closely at the inside picture you'll notice I wasn't very even with the spacing of those strips across the span. Maybe don't butt them all the way up against the inside edges when you try this at home :-) You'll also notice some tape inside my basket...so you'll also want to be a little more careful than I was in cutting the pillow boxes open--you need to leave the flap intact for adhering them together.

You might want to trim the top flaps and sponge your basket BEFORE you put in those strips I showed you above. It would be a lot easier, but I was making this up as I went along so I did it the hard way...after I'd glued the bottom strips in place.

Here are a few closeups of some of the details. On this first one, you can see I left the tiny die cut circle in the tag, where one of the pupils of one of the eyes landed. Also, after I attached the gold foil leaf, I dabbed the Embossing Buddy on the back side to powder down the stickiness.

In the side view of the basket below, you'll see how I attached the handle with two staples crossing over each other in an 'X'. The handle was made from a strip of Basic Black card stock cut to 2" x 11", then scored in 1/2" on each side. That gives you a sturdy 1" x 11" handle. I didn't have to use any adhesive on it after I used my Bone Folder to press down the score marks, and then curled the handle with the bone folder.

The jack-o-lantern face was done totally freehand. I drew on the back of a piece of Basic Black card stock with a pencil and cut it out. Once you get the sizes you want, you may want to trace them to use as a master in case you want to make a second basket. Yes, there are enough kit supplies to make TWO of these baskets! And you'd still have two pillow boxes left over.

And...one more shot of the little ghost peeking out over the edge of the basket :-D

And now, on to the card. For my card, I added Pumpkin Pie card stock, and again sponged Pumpkin Pie ink on the embossed panel of one of the pillow boxes.

I actually used some of the stamps from the Layered Leaves Paper Pumpkin Kit on the card! I used the big leaf and the little one, and I used the "Keep Calm" part of the saying that in full reads: "Keep Calm and Be Thankful". I thought "Keep Calm" was fitting for Halloween ;-)

Here's a little close up of the top of the card, where I wound some of the twine, and attached the leaves with one of the tiny clothespins from the kit. The gold foil leaf "skeletons" are very striking.

And finally, here is the little Halloween tag I put on the card. I stamped one of the pupils from the eyes (from the Spooky Cat stamp set) over the hole in the tag, and then popped out the hole. Then I took my 1/8" Handheld Circle Punch and punched out the other pupil, so the black shows through and the eyes look a little spookier.

Watercolor Christmas - September Step It Up Blog Hop

Welcome to the September 2017 Edition of the We Create Bloggers Step It Up Blog Hop! The theme is to inspire stampers with a basic design, and at least one alternate "stepped up" version of that same design. My project this month features products from the NEW Stampin' Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog!

The stamp set I used is called Watercolor Wishes, and it is available in wood-mount and cling-mount. It coordinates with the amazing Watercolor Christmas Project Kit, but the script sayings are so pretty, you'll want the stamp set even if you don't get the Project Kit! That crisp red & white stripe is from the Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper. Honestly, I'm not a fan of many of the detailed designs on this paper, but I am so in LOVE with the simple patterns on the back side of each of those papers, that I knew I needed it for holiday cards.

Stampin' Supplies: Watercolor Christmas stamp set, Pool Party card stock, Smoky Slate card stock, Old Olive card stock, Shimmery White card stock, Basic Gray Archival ink pad, VersaMark ink pad (trees in background), Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper, Watercolor Pencils + Blender Pens, Whisper White Solid Baker's Twine, Stitched Shapes Framelits, Basic Rhinestones (colored with red Sharpie).

I stepped up my original card by using Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder for the saying, adding one of our NEW Foil Snowflakes (in gold), and using Gold 1/8" Ribbon in place of the Baker's Twine. Usually, when I'm using blue and gray colors, I opt for silver embossing...but this time I actually prefer the contrast of the gold. I opted for a larger Basic Rhinestone on the top of the tree on this card, too.

Stampin' Supplies: Watercolor Christmas stamp set, Pool Party card stock, Smoky Slate card stock, Old Olive card stock, Shimmery White card stock, Basic Gray Archival ink pad, VersaMark ink pad (trees in background & embossing), Gold Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Gold 1/8" Ribbon, Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper, Watercolor Pencils + Blender Pens, Stitched Shapes Framelits, Basic Rhinestones (colored with red Sharpie).
