Diamond Box from the Stampin' Up! Blog

In today's blog post I'm showing you how I tweaked a Diamond Box (created by European Artisan Award winner, Jessica Winter), which was featured on the Stampin' Up! blog yesterday. I changed it to use inches instead of centimeters, and to use fewer consumable supplies. Did you know that Stampin' Up! has a blog? Make sure you go check it out HERE.

You can find the original instructions for Jessica's Diamond Box on the Stampin' Up! blog HERE, or you can use my measurements in the instructions below. One big reason I changed the measurements is that the lid uses the Love Blossoms Designer Series Paper Stack, which is 6" x 6". I wanted to change the paper size you'd need for the lid, to 3" x 3", so you could get four lids out of one sheet of your precious consumable paper! It does make the top straight sides of the box a little shorter, but I'm fine with that compromise. Keep in mind that you may have to play with the lid just a bit to get it to go on at this size, but it's not difficult to manage. Just line up three of the corners of the box with three corners of the lid, then as you lower the fourth corner of the lid into place, tuck that last corner of the box in, to fit. The top straight sides of your box may bow in slightly, but you can't really tell with the lid on, anyway.

Instructions:
1) Start with a 3" x 3" piece of patterned paper.
2) Score around all four sides of that piece, at a scant 1/2"
3) Snip as shown in diagram below (ignore measurements on diagram)
4) Fold in corner pieces and adhere, to create box lid.
5) Trim card stock to 8-1/2" x 3".
6) Score one long side at 1/2" in from edge.
7) Place this piece in Gift Box Punch Board, with scored long side at bottom.
8) Line up the left short edge of your paper with the Start Line
9) Punch, then score the Horizontal, Triangle, and Triangle Side lines with the tool.
10) Mark the Horizontal Side line on the bottom edge with a pencil - do NOT score it!!
11) Next, slide the pencil mark to the Start Line and repeat the steps.
12) Punch and score until there is an approximately 1/2" flap left.
13) Trim the flap ends as shown in diagram below (ignore measurements on diagram)
14) Adhere flap to other end of long piece, then fold in and adhere bottom flaps.
15) Decorate lid and place lid onto box.

To decorate the lid, I used Blushing Bride card stock, Rose Red ink, and Crumb Cake card stock, as they coordinate with the Love Blossoms DSP Stack. I used the Bow Builder Punch, the Sweetheart Punch (with an image from the Going Global stamp set), and an Iced Rhinestone. I used several adhesives, though if I were limited to only one, the Tear & Tape would have been my choice. I actually used Fast Fuse for the lid and box, Mini Glue Dots for the bow, and Tear & Tape just for the band that goes around the center of the bow. To prop up the heart punch out, I punched out a second heart, trimmed a bit of the pointy tip off, and created a weird angled makeshift stand for the underside. Consider that your New York Times crossword puzzle of the project...lol.
