Movers & Shapers, and Tantalizing Texture Plates

I got my new catalog order the other day, and I felt like I just had to play with the Movers & Shapers Curly Label Sizzix Die for a swap I participated in yesterday. The Movers & Shapers die cut creates a foldover card (complete with score line), and you can move the Curly Label cutout anywhere you want on the front. So, I quickly made the cute card below.

But then I remembered an old cello bag trick that would be perfect with this die, so I played around a little, put an extra couple of score lines on the card (about 1/2" on either side of the Curly Label die score line), and folded the card up so I could put a cello bag of treats in there, with a topper holding it closed. The Curly Label cutout lets the treat peek through. Notice the Top Note die cut folded over the top, embellished with a stamp from a delightful Sneak Peek stamp set called "Yummy", which you can get for FREE during the-Sale-A-Bration which starts February 1st!

You'll notice that the front of the treat holder is covered with dry embossing. I used my new Texturz Plates! After some experimenting, I figured out that I would need to run the front half of the card stock through the Texturz Plate FIRST, and then run the card through the Curly Label die. If you do it the other way around, the perforations around the Curly Label cutout get sort of mashed and aren't as pronounced and flattering.

Also, to get the Texturz Plate to make a nice crisp emboss, I spritzed the front and back of the card stock with water (then blotted off excess between some paper towels) before placing it through the Big Shot. I was very pleased with the results, and highly recommend this trick with the Texturz Plates. You can always use a heat gun to more rapidly dry the card stock afterward--just remember that heating it gently and evenly on both sides (i.e., flip it over and back again, often) is the trick to help prevent buckling or warping.

Curly Label Love Card Stampin' Supplies: Short & Sweet stamp set, Riding Hood Red card stock & ink, Basic Black ink, Whisper White card stock, Scallop Edge Punch, Curly Label Punch Bundle (incl. Curly Label Punch + Cute & Curly stamp set), Movers & Shapers Curly Label Sizzix Die, White Organza ribbon, Crop-A-Dile (3/8" punch holes).

Curly Label Treat Holder Stampin' Supplies: "Yummy" Sale-A-Bration stamp set, Riding Hood Red card stock & ink, Pretty in Pink card stock, Top Note Sizzix Die, Movers & Shapers Curly Label Sizzix Die, SU! Backgrounds I Sizzix Texturz Plates, Crop-A-Dile (3/8" hole), Riding Hood Red Striped Grosgrain, small cello bag.

You can place your order NOW for any of these supplies through my ONLINE STORE, however, you'll need to wait for February 1st if you'd like to qualify for the "Yummy" stamp set, or any of the other five FREE items! You can also qualify for more FREE stamp sets during the Sale-A-Bration, as a Hostess--so give me a call today to book your Stampin' Playdate in the Colorado Springs area, on your preferred date! Fearsome Foursome Card Packs!

Okay, so there's nothing "fearsome" about either foursome of cards, but the word made the title sound alliteratively correct :-) The photos above and below are a couple of boxed sets of (4) 4-1/4" square foldover cards and resized envelopes, which can easily be made with just a few supplies, using the instructions I created HERE.

All you need to have is a set of Designer Series Paper, and some coordinating card stock, ink, and either a coordinating stamp set or maybe Rub-Ons to embellish or add greetings! You can optionally use ribbon, brads, and whatever other bling you want, in order to dress them up. Just be careful--if you make them too pretty, you won't want to use them, or gift them!

I'll be adding to the instructions with a tutorial for the envelopes for these Four Packs very soon, so I hope you'll stay tuned! In the meantime, the gist of the envelopes is to take a Medium Envelope, seal it, cut one short end open, then trim down one side of the short end so you have a flap to fold over. PLEASE NOTE: if you want to mail these cards, they will need to go in an unmodified Medium Envelope in order to meet the minimum dimensions for the Post Office to deliver them.

By the way, if you haven't seen all the new products in the catalog yet, then take a peek at the NEW PRODUCT PRESENTATION in my ONLINE STORE. Just click on the New Catalog, New Products picture to take the tour.

Make & Take Mistakes!

A fellow SU! demonstrator here in town had a downline meeting on Monday night, and was gracious in letting "orphan" demonstrators, like me, join in the fun. (Orphan demonstrators are those whose uplines live very far away, or who are no longer active in SU!) Kimberly had just returned from a SU! Leadership Seminar, and brought a stamp set from the new catalog for us to do a Make & Take with. I was totally yakking my head off about the new catalog, and only did some quick stamping before I left...and I royally messed up. Since it was a new catalog set and I can't order it until January 19th, I couldn't just have a do-over at home. So, here's Lesson #1 in covering up smeared ink mistakes: sponge the daylights out of the card, and hope no one notices!

And I promise I wasn't trying to pretend I could pull off the old artsy fartsy display with the picture by sticking SU! product in the corner of it. I couldn't get the card to stand up on my slick tabletop, so the container of brads was keeping it from doing the card splits and sliding open and flat onto the table surface.

Stampin' Supplies: Good Friend stamp set*, Raspberry Tart Designer Series Paper*, Whisper White card stock, Kiwi Kiss card stock, Chocolate Chip ink, Kiwi Kiss ink, So Saffron ink, Pink Pirouette ink refill (used for watercolor on flowers) Stampin' Sponge, Blender Pens, Pretty in Pink Tafetta Ribbon, Pretty in Pink brads, Keytag Punch (you have to cut your paper no taller than the height of the punch, stamp your saying, then slide only one end of your paper strip into the Keytag Punch to get one side rounded like that).

*Denotes New Catalog Product! You can shop the new catalog in my ONLINE STORE starting January 19th at NOON MST!!! Feel free to email me if you'd like to Book a Party with me, and get your FREE COPY OF THE NEW CATALOG, as well as the opportunity to complete your own Make & Takes with new stamp sets!

Conversational Topic

It's about time for another Valentine treat, don't you think? Here ya go, a box of Conversation Hearts, all prettied up for your most favorite sweetie!

I have to run for now, but I'll leave some written directions for those of you who may be desperate to try this out immediately. (A photographic tutorial will follow soon) These are super easy and fun to make, you can bling them up like I did, or just keep it simple and sweet.

1) Take an 8-1/2"x11" sheet of card stock and cut it to 6-3/4"x11", then cut it to 6-3/4"x4-3/4". (you can get two boxes out of one sheet of card stock...keep the scraps for decorating the box)
2) Score parallel to the 6-3/4" side, at 3/4".
3) Turn sheet 1/4 turn and score parallel to the 4-3/4" side at: 3/4", 3-3/16", 3-15/16", and 6-3/8".
4) Cut away the scored rectangle at the bottom corner which is 3/4"x3/8" and discard.
5) Snip up each score line on the bottom, to the 3/4" score line.
6) Decorate with wheel, stamps, or by layering DSP on whichever sides you want covered.
7) Punch holes in the two long sides with Horizontal Slot Punch. (making a template helps keep these uniform)
8) Fold box and adhere with SNAIL. (the little 3/8" edge will go inside the box, the bottom flaps fold in)
9) Place about 24" of ribbon through the punched slots, so that the ribbon is stretched across the top opening of the box.
10) Place a box of conversation hearts down into the box, so that the ribbon is pushed down into the box by the conversation hearts, then tie a bow at the top of the box.

Notes: You can cover the top of the conversation hearts box with coordinating card stock and/or paper if you want. I made my card stock 2-3/8"x3/4" for the top, and layered a slightly smaller piece of DSP onto that. You can use the long 1-3/4"x11" scrap from the original sheet of card stock, and cut it into two 7/8"x11" pieces, which can be wrapped around each of the two boxes for extra decoration if you like (sort of like a belly band). I layered a slightly skinnier strip of DSP on top of my belly band.

Stampin' Supplies: Rose Red card stock, Whisper White card stock, Raspberry Tart Designer Series Paper*, Regal Rose ink, Rose Red ink, Kiwi Kiss ink, Blender Pens, Love You Much Bundle (I used the Love You Much stamp set & Heart to Heart Punch), Horizontal Slot Punch, Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon, Stampin' Dimensionals®. And, of course, I used a box of Conversation Hearts. Both the Brach's® and Sweetheart® brands come in the same size box, just for our crafting convenience, I'm sure!

*Sneak Peek product, available for purchase beginning January 19th at Noon MST!

Purchase directly from my ONLINE STORE, or email me to place your order for Valentine craft supplies NOW! Don't be caught in a panic by waiting til the last minute to take part in the biggest card-sending day OF THE YEAR.

Bee Mine, Valentine

This picture just doesn't do this project justice, so I'll have to see if I can take a better one for you tomorrow in the daylight. UPDATE: the picture below was taken in the morning sunlight, but it was super windy so I only got one shot at it! [Click on the picture to see it full-size.]

I spent like all afternoon making this card. I don't usually take this much time making a card, but I had a vision of the starting point (a bee hive and bees in Pink Pirouette & Riding Hood Red) and not much more than that. So, I had to think it out as I went. And, it took a while to get it to where I was happy with it--especially with having to watercolor on Very Vanilla card stock, cutting out the delicate little bees, and then cutting out all the stamped letters individually.

How do you like the Pretties Kit hat pin used as an arrow through the heart on the top left? I felt so clever after that finishing touch! I dyed White Tafetta ribbon with the Pink Pirouette ink to get it to coordinate with the card. And, I don't know if you can tell, but the little bees' wings have a teensy bit of Dazzling Diamonds glitter which is quite adorable in real life.

This sample was made with products from the Love You Much Bundle, which you can order right now, but it's only available if you contact me directly. (portions of the bundle are on backorder, and the Online Store will not let you purchase out of stock items) I also used a new stamp set called Just Buzzin' By as my focal point. It's cute as a bug...which is appropriate, since bees ARE bugs...and you will be able to order it starting January 19th. The letters were stamped with the Short Order Alphabet. I'm too embarrassed to tell you how long that set has been sitting unassembled on my shelf. But at least it's all put together now that I just had to use it for this card!

More Longaberger Baskets to Sell

If your purchase is meant to be a gift, I would be happy to create a custom hand-stamped card to send along with it. These make thoughtful, personal gifts for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, or birthdays, especially for that special person in your life who already seems to have everything!

Please email me if you are interested in one or more baskets, and I will calculate shipping for your combined items, and send you a Google Checkout invoice to pay for your purchase securely online. Flower Fancy Foursome (FREE class)

It's been pretty busy around here, trying to clean up after the holidays and get back into the swing of things, but I did do a little bit of stamping I wanted to share with you!

All four of these cards were made with the Bella Rose Designer Series Paper, and the coordinating colors of ink card stock (Pretty in Pink, Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss, and Chocolate Chip), and the stamp set Flower Fancy. I used the Blender Pens to color in the images on the red card, and I used the Riding Hood Red reinker to make sure that red was nice and dark. I used White StazOn ink to get the flowers in the background to show up on the Chocolate Chip card stock. Also, since the Basic Brown ink pad is essentially the same color as Chocolate Chip, I used that for my brown, because the Basic Brown pad is waterproof...allowing me to watercolor over it without smearing it! As a final touch, I used Stampin' Dimensionals to pop the focal images up a little.

These cards are beautiful for use any time of year, whether you want to make them for yourself, or as a gift set to give away. They are also ideal to use for Valentine's Day, especially if you aren't into the heartsy-lovey traditional Valentine's Day images. Pair them up with a variety of greetings, stamped in neutral colors, then mix & match your greetings and cards as the occasions arise! Check them out below...and remember...click on any image to see it full size.

Order these products during the month of January, and use them in a FREE CLASS to make eight of the cards above (2 each of 4 designs), plus a selection of coordinating greetings to use with the cards, plus the matching envelopes. I will provide everything else you need in addition to the products below, and whatever adhesive you'd like to use:
  • Flower Fancy stamp set - die cut for easy assembly (#111578, $36.95)
  • Bella Rose Designer Series Paper (#112041, $9.95)
  • In Color Assorted 8-1/2"x11" Card Stock - 6 ea of 6 colors (#111347, $7.95)

Call me at 719-205-5957 to place your order, or place your order in my ONLINE STORE, and email me to schedule a time to attend your free class. The free class will be held in my home, or if you can get at least 5 others to also purchase the qualifying products this month, we can hold the class in another local spot your group chooses.

Of course, you'll have plenty of card stock and Designer Series Paper left to make tons more cards on your own, even after the class! If you want to have coordinating products for that, you may want to also order the following items. When any of these are ordered in conjunction with the three products above, you will receive a 10% discount on them (limit 1 each):
